Uber ATC is the R&D hub for Uber’s engineering teams dedicated to self-driving technologies, mapping, and vehicle safety. As a Build Engineer, you’ll be at the core of the software development process driving adoption and implementation of industry best practices throughout the organization. The role requires collaboration with many different groups, and is central to our mission to deliver quality cutting-edge software, deploying to embedded, desktop and mobile platforms. Build and release engineering enables and materializes the work of all the other engineering disciplines, and thus you’ll have the opportunity to make a significant impact across the organization. Job Description

Here are the kinds of skills we’re looking for:

Core Skills.

You should be a capable build engineer, with proven track record of delivering large software systems in industry. Our software teams develop in C++ and Python for deployment into embedded, desktop, mobile and HPC cluster environments, and do their work on Linux, OS X, and Windows. As a build engineer, you should have strong Unix systems knowledge, be fluent with Python, have experience with CMake, as well as familiarity with other build and continuous integration systems used in large software projects. Previous experience with cross-development is a plus.

You should be adaptable, but devoted to finding and implementing the best solutions to the complex technical problems of efficiently building and releasing software. You should be able to dive into a large variety of systems including databases, network file systems, web applications, mobile apps, HPC clusters, and other distributed systems. In addition to a having a deep and diverse toolbox, you should have a strong intuition for ‘knowing what you don’t know’ and an ability to learn quickly.

You should approach your work with discipline and a passion for displacing chaos with order. Build and release engineers curate and deliver the work of many others, and serve as the conduit for that work to be applied out in the world. You understand that a build process isn’t useful until it’s measurable and repeatable, and you pride yourself on creating robust, documented solutions.
