Systems Engineer

The Video Operations group at Twitch is responsible for the bare metal beneath one of the world's largest live CDN’s. If you understand what that means, you are probably aware of what a great set of opportunities and fun challenges that presents. You will be part of the team to keep the heart and soul of Twitch smoothly humming 24x7, delivering exabits of video to our 10s of millions of users. You will have the opportunity to help level up Twitch’s operational capabilities through automation and project improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Driving work around ease of monitoring and reduction of operational overhead
  • Developing tooling and automation around operational tasks
  • Participation in technical architecture review around operations
  • Working closely with Software Engineering teams to deep-dive complex issues
  • Triaging and responding to operational issues
  • Participation in an on-call rotation
  • Participation in the change management process

Requirements

  • Strong Linux experience
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be customer focused
  • Requires an ability to function largely independently
  • Experience in a technical operations role
  • Requires a deep understanding of Systems
  • Requires strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Requires an understanding of Networks and Networking
  • Requires programming/scripting experience

  • Experience with Nagios, or other monitoring systems
  • Experience with system provisioning
