Systems Development Engineer

We are looking for talented Systems Engineers to join our Core-Systems team. You'll help create and maintain internal applications that help orchestrate all of the moving parts of Twitch's large and growing infrastructure. You'll also write tools to help visualize and monitor performance, reliability, throughput, and other key metrics for our application stacks. Lastly, you'll assist in the creation of new, resilient, scalable applications. The right candidates will be solid Systems Engineers who are comfortable at every level of a web application stack, from the database backend up to the user interface.


  • Driving work around ease of monitoring and reduction of operational overhead
  • Developing tooling and automation around operational tasks
  • Participation in technical architecture review around operations
  • Working closely with other internal teams to deep-dive complex issues
  • Triaging and responding to operational issues
  • Participation in an on-call rotation


  • Strong Linux experience
  • Extensive configuration management experience (Puppet preferred)
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills
  • Requires an ability to function largely independently
  • Experience in a technical operations role
  • Requires strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Requires a deep understanding of Systems (including DNS and LDAP)
  • Requires an understanding of AWS and the services it offers
  • Requires an understanding of Networks and Networking
  • Requires programming/scripting experience

Bonus Points

  • Advanced programming/scripting experience in Go and/or Python
  • Experience with Terraform, Consul and Packer
  • Experience with Nagios
