System Operations Engineer

You will be part of a brand new team at Twitch focused on the performance and stability of our networks and systems. This team owns the beating heart of Twitch’s Video Platform Live Operations and is staffed 24/7, 365 days a year. This will include regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability improvements. You will keep the heart and soul of Twitch smoothly humming around the clock, delivering exhibits of video to our tens of millions of users.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot network and video operations issues  
  • Create and maintain documentation around process and workflow
  • Monitor graph analytics to identify potential problem areas
  • Collaborate with Network and VidOPS teams to unify alert processes, focused on building deep understanding of Twitch systems
  • Build and maintain operational runbooks
  • Ensure continued smooth operations of the global network infrastructure
  • Understand dependencies and failure points within the networking infrastructure and identify steps to correct these issues
  • Participate in a 24/7/365 shift work and/or on-call rotation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 3+ years experience as an System Engineer or Ops/DevOps engineer
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience working in a Linux environment
  • Willingness to participate in a 24/7/365 shift work and/or on-call rotation

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Puppet, Nagios, Ansible, ElasticSearch, Grafana
  • You can speak intelligently about BGP, MPLS-TE, OSPF, and NetFlow
  • Exposure to AWS services
  • Experience with Time Series Databases and analytics
