Engineering Manager - Notifications

Twitch’s Notifications team sends over 200 million messages per day to the Twitch audience across email, mobile push, on-site, and in-browser channels. As the engineering manager for notifications, you will build, own, and operate the machinery which delivers these messages to our users and execute a product roadmap that provides the behavioral “nudge” to engage and retain millions of viewers and streamers worldwide. You’ll work alongside cross-functional partners from product, data science, design, and marketing to develop a notifications strategy which balances technical and operational excellence with product agility. Responsibilites

  • Establish and manage an operational cadence and process for your team
  • Accelerate career development and foster exceptional engineering talent
  • Work closely with product managers to plan, schedule, and deliver high-impact projects
  • Design, implement, and test an evolving suite of user-facing notifications
  • Build leverage for other product teams at Twitch with the notifications platform
  • Serve your team by intercepting urgent requests and cutting randomization at its source
  • Negotiate engineering requirements with various product teams across the Twitch organization
  • Empathize with Twitch users and ship features to address their needs
  • Last but not least, devote 20 to 40% time writing and reviewing code with your team

Requirements

  • 6 years experience engineering consumer
  • Facing products at scale, 1 year managing a team
  • Proficiency with service-oriented or microservice architecture
  • Sound technical judgment with solid coding ability
  • Working knowledge of basic statistics and data analysis
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Bonus Points

  • Experience writing Go or React.js in production systems
  • Hands on experience building and scaling services using Amazon Web Services
  • Prior experience with email infrastructure vendors, e.g. SparkPost, SendGrid, or Amazon SES
  • You are a Twitch user yourself
