Twilio is looking for a Software Engineer who wants to design, develop, deploy, and operate services that will perform large-scale, real-time data processing. Someone who has experience developing complex distributed systems in Python, Scala, or Java. Bonus points if you have expertise with scalable data pipelines (e.g. Spark, Kafka, Kinesis), and you are comfortable with managing large relational database clusters (e.g. MySQL, Postgres) and next generation distributed data stores.


A great day for you would be working with your fellow engineers to deploy a new scalable sharded transaction processor to production with zero downtime. Or, you've spent your week designing a new API that will power our next new billing model. The work you're doing will handle millions of micro-transactions an hour and help Finance, Fraud Ops, and the Product teams do their jobs. At the same time, you will be helping junior developers by mentoring them, providing guidance, and positively influencing their careers.  


Twilio's customers send millions of communications every day. These communications become a firehose of micro-transactions, processed at a fraction of a penny at a time. As a pay-as-you-go service, it's critical to external and internal customers that we bill transactions in a timely and accurate manner. As a shared platform within Twilio, we have a responsibility to ensure that our systems can quickly and easily scale to support new products and use-cases.

As a member of the Transactions Platform team, you'll have an opportunity to take on some of the most challenging problems in distributed computing, HTTP, data persistence, and more. You'll have end-to-end ownership of the micro-transaction system that processes customer usage. You'll work directly with product management to define, architect, build, and test new internal and external facing services. As an owner-operator of our services, you'll also develop evaluation, monitoring, and roll-out plans to minimize operational risk and ensure that systems run smoothly from day one.
