Senior Software Engineer - API
The API team is responsible for the front door of Twilio. As an edge platform team, our API layer is a high-availability, low-latency machine that processes all of Twilio’s REST API traffic, over 3 billion API requests per week. As part of our mission, the team is also responsible for all HTTP edge traffic at Twilio.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer with 8+ years of experience including strong leadership and mentorship experience. Our high-concurrency, high-performing stack is written primarily in Python and the team members deal with NLBs, async IO technologies such as nginx and HAProxy, and other tools and services related to maintaining a robust edge network. We seek fantastic, passionate, motivated, empathetic, customer-serving engineers that want to help Twilio fuel the future of communications. The person in this role will receive exposure to the unique set of challenges that come from scaling global services that run at 99.999% availability.
As a member of the API team, you will help mentor junior engineers while helping to drive the team’s vision and roadmap. The team values through code reviews with constructive feedback and collaboration. To provide a reliable service, we write high-quality, effective system, performance, integration, unit, and functionality tests. You should be comfortable debugging high-visibility production systems, breaking down requirements, estimating tasks, and maintaining existing services and tools. Job responsibilities also include being on-call and participating in our blameless post-mortems, incident resolution, SLA definition, and operational reviews.
