Solutions Engineer - Business Intelligence

The Role
TripleLift is seeking a seasoned engineer with Business Intelligence (BI) and data experience to help collect, manipulate, monitor, and analyze business data in order to drive initiatives across various TripleLift departments. This candidate will be an integral part of the Solutions Engineering team, helping both monitor business liquidity and advocate and implement actions to improve it. The candidate will be a senior engineer on the team, reporting to a Solutions Engineering Manager.
 
BI Engineer
Business Intelligence is using technology to collect and analyze data in order to present actionable information to various parties. The BI Engineer exhibits a deep data expertise along with both adept engineering chops and refined communication skills to work with business and engineering to define KPIs (key performance indicators) and then monitor them. Specifically, the BI Engineer will own data strategy (for the data we surface, the data stores, the UIs), data processes, and data systems health.
 
The BI Engineer has a passion for understanding technology and business processes, increasing client happiness, and empowering other teams. This individual must be able to creatively analyze data to discover root-causes or trends as well as effectively communicate to the internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a team player who has a positive attitude who can easily switch from coding a new tool to resolving discrepancies with a strategic partner. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable working with the executive team to surface high level metrics that help provide a pulse on operations.

Responsibilities
  • Contributor
    • Focus on collecting, monitoring, and analyzing data related to specific business KPIs;
    • Help use current tools (eg. Looker) to create BI dashboards for various business stakeholders;
    • Assist all TripleLift teams in advancing a “data-driven” approach to all activities
    • Understand the technical and commercial “flows” to motivate platform monitoring, improvements, and debugging;
    • Analyze customer support cases, which includes verifying cases, analyzing data, isolating and diagnosing the problem, and then implementing a monitor;
    • Coordinate with Product and Engineering teams in identifying, reporting, and monitoring product issues;
    • Enhance internal data tools to empower stakeholders to observe and analyze faster and answer their own questions
  • Team Leader
    • Help company leaders instill a culture that thrives on data;
    • Assist in hammering home best practices and standards to the whole Solutions team
Desired Skills and Attributes
  • Demonstrated experience in data-oriented roles;
  • An ardent leader of “data-driven” and noted advocate of organizational plans based on pure data;
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with a tenacious commitment to finding the root cause of issues;
  • Experience with fundamental web technology & aptitude to expand technical skills -- including exposure to datastores & querying frameworks (MySQL, MongoDB), standard data foundations (DataBricks, Python, Kafka, Spark), and production technical stacks;
  • Specifically experienced in both SQL and NoSQL technologies with a desire to dive into various data-related technologies;
  • Outstanding communication skills, particularly in conveying technical concepts in a manner that is easy for clients and non-technical partners to understand;
  • Excellent quantitative skills and comfort with data exploration tools such as Excel, numpy, R, etc;
  • Comfortable taking ownership of projects and showcasing key accomplishments -- collaboratively or autonomously;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work under intense pressure and multitask in a fast-paced start-up environment
Education Requirement
  • Studies in computer science, engineering, mathematics, economics or technical field.

Experience Requirement

  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in technical solutions, engineering, data science, or other technical position.
  • Minimum of 2 years in leading “data-driven” initiatives
