Who we are looking for:

Our customer base and network are growing rapidly and we are expanding our Engineering Team. We are looking for extremely talented, energetic, and motivated interns to join us on our journey. We are a small group and you will have a big impact on the success of our product and company.

We have seen success with past interns and are excited to see what ideas you can bring to the table to improve our platform. You can expect to primarily focus on a project of your choosing but also learn modern software engineering techniques by engaging in typical engineer duties. To ensure a productive internship experience, we will work with you to ideate your project and bring it to life. Other engineers, designers, and product managers, thanks to the company's community-based culture, will be ready to lend you a hand through roadblocks and difficulties - we've all been there.

Though you will be primarily focused on your project, we expect certain standards of software development. You will be responsible for overall design and code quality. Additionally, you will ensure your solutions are secure, scalable, testable, and maintainable and are aligned with other areas of the system. Though you might not be familiar with these concepts in practice, we will be there to guide and support you through the process. We are here to foster a learning experience that is both productive to you as well as the company.

The internship will cumulate with a company-wide internship presentation, where you will show off the work you've done and your experience.

In terms of timeline, we are flexible in start and end dates. We've seen part-time internships during a school semester, full-time internships during the summer, and everything in between. Due to the advantage of immersion, we would prefer interns start with full-time work before transitioning to a different schedule.

Notes:
  • Conversion from an internship position to a full-time employee position is possible and has occurred.
  • This internship is a paid position.
  • This internship is a hybrid position in Cambridge, MA, with some onsite and some remote days.

Our Engineering Environment:

We are building our system with a variety of technologies including React, Dropwizard, Spring Boot, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, Redis, Mongo, PostgreSQL, and Oracle all running on AWS. We're writing code in JavaScript, Java, Rust, Go, Python, R, and SQL. We are currently researching and implementing the best technologies to enable future analytics development. We operate in an agile environment where we believe in collaboration, code/design reviews, and lots of automated tests.

Responsibilities:
  • Being a great teammate
  • Working on your determined internship project
  • Collaborating with our team, presenting your concepts and ideas to the rest of the group
  • Ensuring that your solutions are secure, manageable, scalable, and testable
  • Documenting your designs
  • Communicating status and tracking work activities via Agile development tools and practices

Requirements:
  • Great communication skills
  • Experience with a common programming language (JavaScript, Java, Python, C++, C)
  • A self-starter, ready to take initiative and motivated to work as part of a startup which at times requires chipping in wherever needed
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas would be preferred, though your willingness and ability to learn take precedence
  • Frontend JavaScript frameworks (React, AngularJS, VueJS)
  • JavaScript build tools (Parcel, Rollup, Webpack, Snowpack, Vite)
  • CSS frameworks (Styled Components, Tailwind, SASS)
  • REST based systems
  • AWS or similar
  • System security (identity management, access control, auditing, penetration)
  • Distributed computing and message queues
  • SQL and various RDBMS (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySql)
  • NoSQL architectures; specifically, Mongo and Redis
  • Data analytics, ontologies, and semantic web technologies (RDF, OWL, SKOS, etc.)
