The Baltimore Sun seeks an enterprising digital journalist to help lead its emerging news desk. The ideal candidate will help us grow The Sun's audience through engaging and innovative content. Speed and comfort in working across digital platforms are essential.


Work collaboratively with The Sun's journalists to develop and drive strategies that grow audience.

Keep a keen eye for breaking news in The Sun's coverage area, and assign and coordinate reporters to investigate such news

in a timely fashion.

Brainstorm, assign and edit stories with an emphasis on breaking news, trending topics and easily-digestible, audience-friendly


Analyze audience metrics to help inform The Sun's coverage

Produce stories for The Sun's website with an eye for audience engagement, and work with Baltimore Sun editors and reporters

to develop innovative ways to present content digitally

Run the homepage and perform general website maintenance

Help to communicate digital best practices to the newsroom

Program content for The Sun's social media accounts, send breaking news push alerts and newsletters


An undergraduate degree or equivalent experience

At least two years of journalism experience, ideally for a daily publication

Keen and fair news judgement

Superior news editing skills

Demonstrated record with social media and comfort adapting to online technology

Demonstrated understanding of audience metrics and behaviors

Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively

Ability to work quickly and calmly under extremely tight deadline pressure
