Dynamics of the Role
The Corporate Finance Department of TransUnion is excited to offer interns the opportunity to learn about the Finance, Tax and Accounting business. We offer the opportunity to gain exposure to our CFO and Executive Management while gaining experience in a corporate environment. As a tax intern, you will work closely with management and the team to learn about reporting, financial analysis, presentations, etc.
The Team’s Focus
The Corporate Tax Department provides executive management and shareholders with the comfort that TransUnion’s corporate taxes are minimized by timely analyzing current legislation and maintaining up to date multinational government tax accounting and compliance responsibilities. Working directly with executives and their financial teams, the team is responsible for reporting the accounting for income taxes under ASC 740, preparing and filing TransUnion’s annual consolidated Form 1120 income tax return and executing on strategic tax planning initiatives. Associates in this fast-paced work environment don’t just prepare and file tax returns; they understand the company’s tax positions and work hard to improve processes that better the overall financial reporting to key stakeholders. Recently, the team successfully implemented various Thomson Reuters OneSource Tax Software tools to ensure best practice efficiencies in using software to help manage large amounts of data. Day in, day out, the Corporate Tax department makes highly valued and visible contributions to the business and influences Executive Management in making valued tax decisions.
How You’ll Contribute
- Assist with various tax compliance including preparation of state income/franchise tax returns and supporting allocation and apportionment workpapers, U.S. federal income tax returns and foreign forms 5471, 8865 and 1118 as well as Canada and Puerto Rico filings
- Assist with various quarterly ASC 740 accounting for income tax requests such as setting up electronic file folders, reconciling earnings before tax, preparing book to tax differences, documenting Sarbanes Oxley processes, etc.
- Assist with Special Projects, including but not limited to research and analysis in connection with tax legislation changes, government tax audits, tax software implementation projects, etc.
