Analytics & Machine Learning Intern
Dynamics of the Role
This position will conduct a research project, either independently or as part of a team, under the supervision of a senior member of the Financial Services Analytics team. The project scope will be designed to be achievable within the expected duration and total number of hours of the internship. At the conclusion of the project, the supervisor will conduct an assessment of the quality, completeness, and usefulness of the work. Executing the project will provide the incumbent with the opportunity to gain practical knowledge of applications of analytics in the consumer credit industry.
The Team’s Focus
The Data Science and Analytics team is responsible for providing fair, impartial analyses and recommendations for all departments within TransUnion Consumer Interactive. We use data to monitor systems, and identify issues. We build models to provide guidance to product development, marketing and IT. We also have a modern computing environment based on best-in-class “big data” technologies and the freedom to explore new data sources and statistical and machine learning methodologies. All of these resources will enable you to help us deliver next-generation analytic solutions for ourselves and our customers.
How You’ll Contribute:
- Responsible for creation of a machine learning algorithm to predict business conditions based upon known dimensions.
- Perform statistical analysis and data mining methods including cluster analysis, text analytics, classification, regression, sentiment analysis and time series analysis.
- Analyze time series and identify notable events – data tends to be highly seasonal.
- Provide ad hoc analyses e.g. runs series analysis.
- Responsible for documenting and presenting work.
What You’ll Bring:
- Proficiency in R or Python.
- Working knowledge of clustering algorithms, machine learning, classification and text analysis.
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong communication skills
- Organization and ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments
