Tax Manager

JOB SUMMARY

The Tax Manager will work together with existing Tax Manager in managing the Company's global tax compliance; assisting the Director of Tax with the implementation of tax projects including identifying, understanding, communicating and managing projects from inception to completion; and providing tax technical expertise and knowledge of processes to further develop the business as well as professional staff.

JOB DESCRIPTION

FOCUS AREA #1 - INDIRECT TAX COMPLIANCE

  • Review monthly U.S. sales & use tax returns
  • Review monthly Canadian HST/GST/PST returns
  • Manage SAP-Thomson Reuters interface to ensure proper computation and remittance of monthly sales and use tax
  • Gather financial data for third-party tax preparers, reconcile amounts due and review monthly VAT returns
  • Gather intercompany movements for the preparation of Intrastat reports in European jurisdictions
  • Reconcile VAT input tax credits and VAT liabilities as part of the monthly financial statement close


FOCUS AREA #2 - INCOME TAX COMPLIANCE & FINANCIAL REPORTING
  • Manage global income tax compliance with third-party tax preparers
  • Review U.S. federal, state & local partnership income tax returns
  • Review U.S. federal, state & local partnership estimated tax payments and extension calculations
  • Review international income tax returns
  • Prepare monthly and annual income tax provisions
  • Reconcile all tax accounts as part of the monthly financial statement close
  • Assist with preparation of budget and forecasting cash taxes


FOCUS AREA #3 - AUDIT DEFENSE
  • Assist Director of Tax with U.S. sales & use tax audits
  • Assist Director of Tax with Canadian HST/GST/PST audits
  • Assist third-party tax preparers with the audit defense of U.S. and international income tax audits


FOCUS AREA #4 - SPECIAL PROJECTS
  • Partner with IT Retail and Sales Audit with the implementation of indirect tax software
  • Partner with IT and General Accounting with tax-related modifications/updates to SAP
  • Partner with other business units with all tax related projects


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES NOT COVERED IN FOCUS AREAS (please list any other responsibilities that may not fall into the buckets above)
  • Recognize and understand tax risks and quantify these issues while developing plans and strategies to address these risks
  • Assess process improvements that need to be addressed in the department and begin to implement process changes to increase efficiency
  • Develop federal and state effective tax rate and cash tax planning strategies and begin to implement plans to reduce taxes
  • Develop cross-functional relationships outside of tax so input can be given to strategic business matters


EDUCATION & PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED

  • Bachelors in Accounting and/or Finance
  • CPA or MST a STRONG PLUS
  • Minimum 5 overall years of experience in either Big 4 public accounting or private industry
  • Strong federal and state income tax background
  • Strong knowledge of state sales and use tax matters, a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of Thomson Reuters OneSource (Determination, Compliance Reporting, and Use Tax Module), a plus
  • Working knowledge of SAP, a plus
  • Experience utilizing tax systems to increase efficiencies and strong tax software analytical skills
  • Exposure to international tax issues with the desire to learn more international
