Manager, Fabric

Overview

This position supports the research and development, design, and merchandising teams in seasonal development of fabrics. This role requires a candidate to interact with multiple cross functional partners, as well as overseas offices and fabric suppliers. Candidates must be able to thrive in a fast paced environment. Be extremely organized, clear communicator and have a high taste level.

Responsibilities

 

  • Manage/ follow up with HK/ SHA for all adopted fabrics throughout product cycle (from concept/ adoption through bulk).  Lead proto and sms ordering process and be able to trouble shoot and react quickly. Find sub fabrics, working closely with internal pattern room and design.
  • Highlight potential testing issues and partner with sourcing team, overseas fabric team and mills to trouble shoot and resolve fabric quality issues in order to meet TB testing requirements.
  • Liaise with merchant/ production on liability utilization.
  • Vendor base strategy management to build mill fabric and leather vendor matrix (shared w/ director and HK team).
  • Work with design to ensure adopted fabrics for main line/ show are in line with merchant needs and target price points.  If adopted qualities are above target price will work with vendors to re-develop original or counter source through HK.
  • Review all sms cuttings against original approved standards for sms/ bulk approvals with director and VP.
  • Counter source options from archives/ library and HK fabric teams for any basic/ core fabric requests based on original garments (vintage or retail) and tear sheets.
  • Attend local and international trade shows and mill appointments.
  • Creation of fabric archive and materials library.
  • Review all fabric or leather developments, trials and hand looms with design for approval with director and VP.
  • Competitor research and analysis.
  • Clear understanding of supplier capabilities and good supplier relations.
  • Good technical understanding.
  • Seasonal research, organization and prep for Tory Meetings and sign offs
  • Brand understanding and brand awareness
  • Thorough and experienced HK office correspondence and liaison.

Qualifications

  • BA or equivalent.
  • Experience with PDM.
  • Clear understanding of supplier capabilities and good supplier relations.
  • Strong technical understanding.
  • Brand understanding and brand awareness
  • Must have experience working and liaising with Hong Kong.
