The System Design Engineer's role is to design, validate and deploy technical solutions to maintain, enhance, and evolve the T-Mobile Network and Systems. As a Systems Design Engineer, you will provide day to day management and administration of Linux and IBM AIX systems running within T-Mobile's Data Centers.
Specific tasks may include the development and maintenance of designs for the network, applications, data centers, connectivity, validation plans, monitoring systems, reporting systems and engineering tools. The priority of these designs is to maximize reliability, performance, and efficiency while limiting costs and time to market.
Responsibilities may include the evaluation and translation of requirements into design, evaluate design benefits and tradeoffs, validate design compliance and support deployment of the design to ensure the requirements were met. Development of tools may be required in order to most efficiently solve technical or business challenges including technology evolution, capacity management, and performance optimization. Use of existing automation tools may be required to solve problems at scale. Technical documentation and presentation skills are required in order to convey design benefits to a wide range of audiences. Works on technical assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations. Works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
Normally receives little instruction on daily work, general instructions on newly introduced assignments. This position is responsible for designing, administering and maintaining hardware and UNIX OS software running applications which are critical to T-Mobile's day to day operations. Core technologies are comprised of enterprise class IBM, HP, Dell, AIX, Linux hardware and software installations.

Review existing designs and processes to highlight more efficient ways to complete existing workload more effectively through industry perspectives. Technical Writing: Maintains knowledge of existing technology documents. Writes basic documentation on how technology works. Contributes clear documentation on multiple systems used. Technical Leadership: Collaborates with technical teams and utilizes system expertise to deliver technical solutions. Continuously learns and teaches others existing and new technologies. Be responsible for the installation and maintenance of the operating system and application server configurations on the UNIX servers in the environments, including management of virtualization in the environment and building automation to manage systems at scale.

- 5+ Years Technical engineering experience
- Systems engineering and technical expertise in the planning, design, and implementation of highly available UNIX systems.
- Demonstrated ability to manage infrastructure-related projects including installation of hardware and software solutions (for mainframe, distributed servers, storage, middleware, and networking)
- Experience with automation and devops toolsets, including Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Jenkins, Git, and Source Control.
- Proficient in UNIX OS administration (Linux RHEL 6 and 7, AIX on Power).
- Proficient in IBM Power Platform including HMC administration, Firmware updates and frame maintenance.
- Experience with UNIX Shell Scripts.
- The ability to conduct Technology and Capacity assessments.

- Bachelor's Degree. Engineering/Computer Science, or equivalent experience
