This person will lead a team of talented engineers toward optimization in the existing core and edge infrastructure, while validating designs and auditing the existing network configuration to ensure consistency and quality in design and deployment. This leader will also have responsibility for work flow management and validation of design optimization standards across the national core network.
The Manager, Infrastructure Optimization guides national infrastructure optimization projects from design to completion, working directly with business and peer technology teams to successfully deliver leading solutions that satisfy business needs, simplifies the IP design landscape and align with T-Mobileââ,¬â„¢s strategic direction. To be successful this role requires strong problem solving, innovative thinking, project planning and proven leadership abilities in an extremely fast paced and rewarding environment. The Manager, Infrastructure Optimization will also provide leadership, drive for business value and results with cross-functional teams including Project Managers, Engineers, and Technicians via influence and relationship building.
The Manager, Infrastructure Optimization will have responsibility for projects focused on core network designs to minimize the points of failure within the network, reduce costs, maximize the ability of the team to drive points of failure out of the network resulting in the best customer experience possible. This leader will have a heavy focus on team development while reducing the overall time to eliminate points of failure within their scope.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:
ââ,¬ Directs and prioritizes the work load of local and remote personnel within the functional group.
ââ,¬ Help develop, track and drive career development paths for all direct reports to maintain employee development as the team evolves with the technology it supports.
ââ,¬ Analyzes complex business needs presented by internal user community and/or clients and recommend technical solutions and processes to achieve the desired result.
ââ,¬ Provides infrastructure optimization deployment strategies, formulating yearly CAPEX and OPEX budget goals, and effectively navigating ambiguity and risk inherent in sophisticated multi-year programs.
ââ,¬ Create, develop and realize strategic initiatives for their area of the business.
ââ,¬ Translate long term strategies and architectures into actionable optimization plans.
ââ,¬ Reviews and approves detailed equipment designs prior to implementing optimized design solutions.
ââ,¬ Ensures the consistency and maintainability of existing designs by creating, maintaining, and enforcing standards/procedures for implementing technical solutions.
ââ,¬ Works with operations in executing production tasks according to a documented schedule that meets or exceeds business expectations around asset lifecycle management.
ââ,¬ Collaborates with Project Managers on detailed project planning and implements effective project controls by monitoring and status reporting for each project.
ââ,¬ Documents existing processes and find areas for improvement through Lean methodologies or automation.
ââ,¬ Enhance performance of existing networks and processes, identify improvement opportunities, and devise innovative solutions.
ââ,¬ Provide expertise and updates to business, design, field, and support teams on network and optimization activities.
ââ,¬ Identify new trends and changes related to network design and adjust team structure to proactively meet these needs through effective lifecycle management.
ââ,¬ Lead critical path optimization projects on behalf of the larger IP deployment teams.
ââ,¬ Performs liaison duties between engineering, operations, and project management personnel in the areas of systems design, modifications or trouble shooting as needed to keep projects and programs ahead of business needs.
ââ,¬ Advise of needed equipment inventories and provide budgetary guidance for customer optimization initiative.
ââ,¬ Represent organization during project planning and kickoff phases of major IP deployment programs.
ââ,¬ Builds alignment with business and other IP teams on priorities and deliveries against these priorities.
ââ,¬ Interface with T-Mobile equipment vendors to drive value to network infrastructure.
ââ,¬ Generate, disseminate, and evaluate RFIs and RFPs for technology or deployment opportunities.
ââ,¬ Also responsible for other Duties/Projects as assigned by business management as needed.


Qualifications (Required):
ââ,¬ 10 years of IP engineering leadership experience preferred, but would accept 3-5 years of IP experience (Cisco, Lantronix, HP, A10, etc.) along with 3-5 years of wireless voice core engineering experience (Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, NSN, etc.).
ââ,¬ Familiarity with network process simplification and automation.
ââ,¬ Strong leadership, communication, negotiation and consensus building skills.
ââ,¬ Ability to work independently, manage and deliver multiple projects in parallel while meeting tight deadlines.
ââ,¬ Proven ability to solve problems creatively and resourcefully.
ââ,¬ Prior experience managing people within project teams and as a people manager.
ââ,¬ Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
ââ,¬ Good understanding of network design and optimization in both TDM and IP environments as well as experience in one or more of the following areas; General networking knowledge including Cisco router and switching products IOS, NXOX, XOS. Network security firewall platforms including Checkpoint and Cisco, DNS Platforms and F5 and A10 products.
ââ,¬ Must be pro-active and creative in identifying business challenges and matching innovative solutions.
ââ,¬ Proficient with MS Office Programs and aptitude for learning new software quickly
ââ,¬ Proven record of demonstrating proper judgment in managing difficult situations.
ââ,¬ Must have good oral and written communication skills.
ââ,¬ Must be able to work well under pressure.
ââ,¬ Must have a solid foundation in electronics theory.
ââ,¬ Must be able to work flexible hours when required.

Qualifications (Desired):
ââ,¬ Prior responsibilities for preparing detailed engineering design documents for implementation and execution of plans of IP infrastructure hardware.
ââ,¬ Experience leading teams through organizational and technology evolution plans.
ââ,¬ Familiarity with network function virtualization
ââ,¬ Familiarity with automation scripting

ââ,¬ Required: BA/BS in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science and or Business or equivalent work experience.
ââ,¬ Preferred: MS in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science and or related discipline. Masters in Business Administration.

May require up to 20% domestic overnight travel within the region, and occasional trips to Bellevue headquarters.
