Senior Lead IT Engineering Manager

TIAA is seeking a Sr Lead Engineer Mgr with experience to lead a global Application Services Middleware Engineering organization specializing in Middleware technologies and services. This individual is expected to have in depth understanding of virtualization, containerization and orchestration platforms as well as a strong background in Web Application development and hosting technologies. They should also have deep awareness of application modernization strategies such as Microservices and API(s) with the ability to design, engineer, develop and influence design strategies supporting Application refactorization, Public and Private cloud migration as well as Greenfield strategies. Individual is expected to maintain strong partnerships with application development team to ensure alignment to Application design strategies.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead team to evaluate, engineer, test and promote the value of OpenSource products. 

  • Lead team to identify and act on new solutions that lead to business value.

  • Design solutions to leverage CI/CD Pipelines for fast, reliable and consistent deployments.

  • Provide strategy to engineer existing and new solutions for operational efficiency using automation tools and technology enhancing productivity and reduced cost. 

  • Provide engineering strategy for cloud agnostic products and evangelize opportunities to leverage Public Cloud where appropriate.

  • Lead, inspire, coach and mentor the team of  Engineers while growing their leadership and technical skills.

  • Build trusting relationships with key business stakeholders to align/influence business and IT architecture.

  • Foster cross functional team collaboration to ensure engineered solutions meet the criteria for availability, performance, resiliency, security and operational efficiency. 

  • Champion an inclusive and diverse global mindset to attract a diverse talent pool within the organization that includes effective coaching and development.

  • Simplify Management of Middleware Security Vulnerabilities and baseline security configuration standards in compliance with industry best practices.

  • Developing and assessing the strategies of enterprise architecture and roadmaps development.

  • Leading IT research and development groups that design business application architecture, data and technologies, for multiple departments and platforms.

  • Making recommendations, gaining approval, and developing implementation strategies for new technologies.

  • Evaluating and recommending product selection to ensure that organizational goals for security, reliability, and performance are achieved.

  • University (Degree) Preferred

  • 3 or more years’ experience leading engineering teams 
  • 3 years’ experience engineering solutions to run in containers
  • 2 years’ experience engineering solutions for Public cloud
  • 2 years’ application or software development

Desired Skills:

  • Developer skills in one of the languages Java, Java Script (jQuery, dojo)/CSS/HTML, Python, GoLang
  • Application Design skills -  Microservices, REST, JVM (Java - Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate), NodeJS
  • Working knowledge of one or more Public Cloud providers: Amazon Web Service, Oracle OCI, Google Cloud
  • Networking concepts: VPC; VPN; Cider Notation; Load Bal; TLS; Cert Management
  • DevOps Tools: Puppet, Docker, Ansible, CI/CD: Jenkins, Nexus, Artifactory
  • Solution Testing: Automated Performance and Regression/Functional Testing
  • API/Security: Mulesoft, Ping Identity, Kong;

Potential Salary: $184,800.00 USD

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.  In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
