CW Information Architect – Design Systems

This is a Non-Employee Contingent Worker Role providing services for TIAA’s family of companies and will be employed by TIAA's preferred 3rd Party Supplier. As a Non-Employee CW, perform a variety of moderately complex business planning, support, and project-related duties. Demonstrates an exceptional standard of quality and holds themselves accountable to achieving excellent results.

This role is located onsite at our TIAA office in Virtual, MA, USA but will currently be remote.

The anticipated term of this engagement will be 23 months. This term could be extended based on company business needs.

CW-Information Systems Analyst IV
The Lead Systems Analyst oversees the installation, configuration and maintenance of the organization's operating systems. This job approves information systems designs and ensures they are appropriate for users' needs and are consistent with the overall design of the organization's information systems architecture. This job manages large projects and is recognized as the Systems expert on the team that solves complex issues that arise.


Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Approves of system scope through existing knowledge and fact-finding that informs the development or modification of complex information systems. groups, aiming to improve business results.

  • Oversees changes to existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.

  • Collaborate with various IT teams and business partners to research, design, develop, test, and deploy marketing review application and reporting metrics for the Compliance business area.

  • Approves flow charts, models, and procedures and feasibility studies to design possible system solutions.

  • Approves technical documentation to guide system users and to assist with the ongoing operation, maintenance, and development of the system.

  • Evaluates all system constraints, implications and consequences of various proposed system changes.

  • Creates procedures to solve complex problems that considers items such as computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results.

  • Estimates the costs of system solutions and prepares project plans to provide input into decisions about prioritizing projects and allocating IT resources.

  • Coaches and delegates work to lower level professionals.

Information Architect – Design Systems

Reporting to the head of Design Standards in our Digital Customer Experience group, the Design Systems Information Architect works with product & project designers to detect new components and design patterns, determine and document component requirements, and direct product and project designers in creating robust, extensible, and flexible components that are delightful, useful, usable, and accessible.

What you’ll own:

  • Managing the ontology, taxonomy, and nomenclature of a design system that includes responsive web and native mobile components, in a way that makes the system useful and usable for all its constituents.

  • Documenting rules of use for new components, coordinating subject-matter experts’ feedback on accessibility, editorial, and usability.

  • Collaborating with front-end development to create a functional spec template to guide our product and project designers through the process of contributing a new component.

  • Developing a rubric for documenting motion and animation standards, interaction patterns, and reusable user flows.

  • Creating and managing a process for testing and monitoring experimental components for future adoption into the system.

What you’ll help with:

  • Reviewing projects with product and project designers to scout for new components or new uses for current components.

  • Participating in a collaborative process to create component designs, driving teams to success with rigor and speed.

  • Collaborating on a plan to migrate all current digital products into one design system, themed and nuanced appropriately for each audience (B2C, B2B, and internal)

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • 5 – 7 years’ experience as an information architect, business analyst, technical writer, interaction designer, product design lead, and/or content strategist. Design operations skills are a plus.

  • Strong analytical, writing, and storytelling skills.

  • A strong ability to read – if not create – visual designs and assess their effectiveness.

  • A good working knowledge of front-end development.

  • Familiarity with Figma, Sketch, InVision’s suite of tools, and Miro.

  • Experience creating or working within a design system, and a deep curiosity about how to structure design systems for effective governance.
