About the FP&A Team

The FP&A Analyst will be the second member of a small, influential and growing FP&A team at Thumbtack. We are a fast growing startup and investing heavily, so we will need a crisp view on how to make the best investments right now so we can build a massive and profitable business.

About you

You are a curious, flexible, fast and passionate analyst who is interested in being stretched, grow, and push the people around you to do better ­in a collaborative not confrontational way. You’re both willing to roll up your sleeves to do the hard work it takes to succeed, and also to step back and plan for a much bigger future. You are not satisfied with easy answers and want to really understand what is going on­ so we can make things better.  In other words, you have a passion for customers, shareholders, and data.

Responsibilities  

Your primary focus will be to take our revenue forecasting model to the next level. In addition to revenue, you will be exposed to the entire P&L and have a chance to make an impact across the business.  

Revenue forecasting, reporting, and insights

  • Build, improve and maintain revenue forecast model, providing the best possible projections and identifying the key drivers of growth
  • Partner with Analytics team to analyze and understand daily, weekly, and monthly revenue trends
  • Work with the business owners to help them make prioritization decisions that drive growth

 Expense forecasting, reporting and insights

  • Support the annual budget, quarterly forecast and long-term strategic planning processes
  • Refine detailed financial models that forecast and analyze functional costs to fully understand sources of variance and, ultimately, improve forecast accuracy
  • Assist on other ad-hoc projects for the FP&A team
  • Produce high-impact value-add analysis for business partners
  • Constantly look for ways to improve processes

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in FP&A, business analysis, or similar roles
  • Being an expert at Excel and Google sheets is a requirement
  • Detail oriented & high bar for quality
  • General interest in Thumbtack and good interpersonal skills

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Investment Banking or Consulting experience a plus
  • Experience with marketplaces and analyzing marketplace dynamics 
  • Experience in both fast ­growing startups and larger (public) companies 
  • Basic SQL skills
  • General interest in Thumbtack and good interpersonal skills
