We are looking for an exceptional editor to lead our Washington bureau and drive coverage of some of the world's biggest stories. The Washington Bureau Chief will need extraordinary skills as a journalist, from overseeing breaking news to driving long-term investigations. A deep understanding of the United States and experience covering big global stories are musts. The ability to open doors in Washington and a background in a real-time news environment would be an advantage. Above all, the bureau chief needs to be an inspiring leader, able to bring out the best in her or his people in covering the world's largest economy and dominant power.

As our Bureau Chief you will:

  • Lead the bureau's news file to ensure it is accurate, fast and impartial, and meets the needs of clients
  • Manage staff across disciplines and work with them to plan, develop and deliver stories
  • Manage staff safety and career development, communicate editorial priorities, and, with specialist editors, set news coverage priorities
  • Represent Reuters with customers and potential customers, and represent the company as appropriate at external events and in appearances with other media


We'd love to hear from you if you have:
  • Amazing people and management skills
  • At least 10 years experience in journalism
  • A track record of running large teams
  • Global experience and background in real-time news
  • Experience running or working on investigative projects
  • A track record in coaching and training staff
  • An appreciation for and knowledge of visual story telling
