Position: Senior SAP Platform Architect

Role Description:

Thomson Reuters Enterprise Business Systems power the Marketing, Sales, Order Management, Service and Corporate services (Finance, HR etc) capabilities within the company. The strategy is to increasingly utilise third parties (cloud, SaaS etc.) and outsourcing vendors to support business processes and provide services. Developing and maintaining the end to end vision and roadmap of how these capabilities support each of the business Units and the Enterprise is key.

The role is for an SAP Platform Architect, or Senior Platform Architect depending on experience, who will:

  • Be responsible for the Enterprise Architecture of the assigned platform (SAP) across the organisation.
  • Will work alongside senior colleagues in the business, EBS Demand and EBS Delivery.
  • Ensure our project and programme change portfolio is defined through our Enterprise Architecture roadmaps and those projects and programmes are governed in a way to ensure their ongoing alignment with the roadmaps.


  • Gain in depth understanding of Thomson Reuters' strategic business and commercial objectives, particularly those that are related to our SAP usage.
  • Provide a reference point across Thomson Reuters for current and future usage of SAP.
  • Contribute to the development of the enterprise architecture function, as well as promoting and communicating its progress, outcomes and results to the organisation and its leaders.
  • Develop and maintain roadmaps for SAP. These roadmaps will be aligned to the business strategy as well as new SAP releases, and will clearly show how the capability will evolve over time to ensure the success of the Thomson Reuters business.
  • The definition, development, maintenance, communication and ongoing governance of the technology roadmaps and target architectures and their use of SAP.
  • Establish, maintain and implement into projects & programmes key architecture artefacts such as building blocks, architecture principles, standards etc.
  • Creation of architecture context documents that define the scope, direction and roadmap for strategic initiatives.

Maintain strong architectural knowledge of SAP technologies, including:

  • SAP ECC, particularly SD and FI modules.
  • SAP PI
  • SAP BW
  • SAP Hana
  • Ariba
  • Fieldglass
  • Hybris

Maintain a broad architectural knowledge of the following technologies:

  • Enterprise platforms architecture including SalesForce
  • Integration technologies including Oracle Fusion
  • Relational databases
  • 'Big Data' platforms & architecture
  • Data Quality Management / Master Data Management
  • Data Translation tools (ETL) including Informatica
  • Web Services and Repositories
  • Collaborate closely with the business stakeholders, demand teams, delivery teams and architects in development of roadmaps and strategies.
  • Provide deliverable oversight and guidance to Solution Architects working on projects in assigned capability
  • Partner with solution architects, solution designers and data/integration architects on large projects to ensure that architectural design is consistent with long term technical strategy.
  • Participate in the wider EBS and business community fostering innovation through the better use of technology to help deliver business value.
  • Analyze IT industry, vendor and market trends to determine their impact on the enterprise.
  • Identify the organizational resources, structures and cultural change necessary to support the enterprise architecture.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to other architects and technical staff in the EBS organization.


  • Platform Architecture for the assigned area (SAP)

Key Deliverables

  • Strategy and roadmaps for the assigned capability area for Thomson Reuters within the context of EBS but also considering wider stakeholders.
  • Architectural principles, standards and building blocks.
  • One-page strategy documents to provide guidance to projects so that they align to the overall strategy.
  • Architecture context documents that define the shape and direction for strategic initiatives.
  • Provide governance for SAP related projects.
  • Keeping up to date with latest SAP developments, and sharing relevant information.

Essential Skill and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have an SAP Techno-Functional background, and be well versed with topics in Basis areas and business functionality. Architecture experience would be preferable, but an aptitude to be able to solve complex problems, good communication skills, and experience in SAP is more important.


  • Management experience in developing and monitoring the delivery of efficient and effective technology solutions to diverse and complex business problems
  • Excellent grasp of SAP functionality in areas such as contract, pricing, invoicing and financials
  • Strong interpersonal, communication skills, both oral and written. You'll have good "storytelling" abilities and be an experienced virtual team worker across time, geographical, and cultural boundaries
  • The ability to use your influence and networking skills to effect change
  • An understanding of how and where SAP software can be deployed to improve business processes
  • An organised and methodical approach, and the ability to initiate, plan, and develop whilst coping with a level of uncertainty and risk

Fully Competent:

  • Strong IT aptitude and knowledge across full IT life cycle with understanding of Enterprise Architecture discipline

  • Strong interpersonal, communication skills, both oral and written. You'll have good "storytelling" abilities and be an experienced virtual team worker across time, geographical, and cultural boundaries
  • The ability to use your influence and networking skills to effect change

Working Knowledge:

  • An appreciation of other technologies, particularly those that are likely to interface with SAP.
  • Usability design
  • Business case development and value realisation through the use of technology
  • A working knowledge of SAP Hana, and a clear understanding of the positioning of S/4 Hana and SAP Cloud solutions.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in Enterprise architecture is desirable, but training will be given to the right candidate.
  • Developing roadmaps
  • TOGAF certification
  • Experience of using iServer, Archimate
  • Experience of RM-CA (Revenue Management – Contract Accounting) module
