Position:GFMS Senior Analyst, Metals Content


SeniorAnalyst, Metals Content. London based and working in the GFMS team of MetalsResearch & Forecast Analysts, this role will be centred on generatingproprietary data analysis for the group's global metals & mining researchproduct and the metals business proposition.


As a moresenior member of staff, the candidate will be a key element in expanding thenature and range of the products from one of the most highly respected researchteams in the metals sector. They will be expected to work with the metalsanalysts and business developers, to generate products that will appeal toanalysts and in particular to the trading population, both buy-side andsell-side, of the financial sector, predominantly through the Thomson ReutersEikon desktop. Some of these productswill be high-frequency and driven through automation while others will havelonger-term scope and be aimed more at investor time horizons.

The Senior Analyst will be expected to:

Developproducts with daily and weekly frequencies that harness information availablein the EIkon product and in Datastream; roll the relevant information into aneasily understandable format and add analytical value to aid interpretation.

Take a rangeof information (usually but not always numerical) and produce simple tounderstand distillations that may point up anomalies that suggest trading orinvestment opportunities (but not to make recommendations).

Identifyways of combining metal-related data and data interpretation that can tie inwith alternative asset classes, for example the equities sector.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors or Masters in a forensic subject such as economics, science, engineering, mathematics or law.
  • Advanced VBA programming, with competence in MatLab, Python or similar.
  • Strong numerical and written skills in order to be able to generate succinct products that will appeal to busy traders.
  • Proven self-starter; ability to work in a team unit.

Desired skills and Experience:

  • Experience in either working alone or directing others.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Eikon suite of products including Eikon desktop, Datastream and Thomson One.
  • Analytical skills that will inform the use of big data.
  • An understanding of the workings of the metals markets and exchanges.
  • An understanding of the metals markets' underlying fundamentals would be an advantage.
