Manager - Accounting Operations

Job Description

Primary Objective:

This position will report to the Senior Director of General Accounting. The candidate will work closely with the general accounting team in Costa Rica and the Global Controllership teams to ensure the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of general accounting processes and procedures. Additionally, this individual will work to standardize general accounting including controls, consistent with the global operating procedures of Thomson Reuters and facilitate the escalation and resolution of open items.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in general accounting; will possess exceptional analytical skills and knowledge of SAP and Blackline; a great collaborator with the ability to manage in a challenging work environment; ability to identify and assess issues; knowledge of the control environment and how to identify gaps; ability to make recommendations and implement improvements; ability to understand and implement processes.

Major Areas of Accountability:

Managing a team of accountants in Costa Rica;

Facilitating the close process to ensure all journal entries and reconciliations are done in a timely and effective manner, meeting SOX requirements with the highest level of quality;

Assisting in developing and reporting metrics to the Global Controller and Regional Controller teams and ensuring that open items in reconciliations are escalated and resolved in a timely manner; providing analytical review to identify trends and comment on overall quality of reconciliations.

Assisting in the development and implementation of continuous training programs in General Accounting.

Qualifications

Candidate Profile:

Bachelors' degree in accounting with CPA or equivalent certification preferred but not required

Minimum 5 - 10 years of Accounting & supervisory experience in a multi-national operating company

Excellent understanding of general accounting

Detailed understanding of IFRS standards

Strong working knowledge of SAP and Blackline are highly preferred

Analytical, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Strong communication skills, both written and spoken with the ability to interact with people at all levels in a complex matrix organization

Proven capacity to deliver and work independently

Flexible mindset and problem solving attitude

Continually looks to share and improve working practice in team.

Takes ownership of problems and uses initiative to follow-up.

Ability to work effectively in a virtual team setting.

Proficiency in Excel and other statistical tools
