Legal Writer

Purpose:

Responsible for classifying and summarizing legal issues contained in case law

and other legal documents.

Your duties will include:

  • identifying and classifying legal issues in case law and other legal documents according to classification system used by the product;
  • writing headnotes, digests, words and phrases entries, quantum and expert witness entries, statutes judicially considered entries in accordance with writing standards using internal databases and editorial tools; and carrying out other tasks as assigned;
  • analyzing and organizing court documents in accordance with Litigator database structure;
  • prioritizing individual work to achieve department goals; and
  • reaching productivity targets to meet currency requirements of all products.

You will be a strong team player and will possess:

  • a Canadian or Commonwealth LL.B or J.D.;
  • strong analytical abilities and legal research skills;
  • the ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to prescribed styles;
  • a keen eye for detail;
  • excellent organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • the ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • an aptitude for learning new technical applications; and
  • PC skills - Word, Excel, Adobe and Outlook.

Familiarity with SGML or XML, court procedure and knowledge of French will be considered an asset.
