Lead Software Engineer (Cloud) - Risk Technology
Thomson Reuters Finance & Risk is looking to add a Lead Software Engineer to our new World-Check One team at our new Technology Centre in Toronto, Ontario. Toronto is an ideal location for us to deliver on our transformation vision. It is one of the top three largest technology environments in North America. It has a rich mix of emerging and mature technology employers, a growing fintech community, and a robust pipeline of development graduates and experienced technologists. Our plan is to create around 1,500 technology and operations jobs in the coming few years, starting with an initial tranche of 400 roles at the new Centre.
This challenging position requires someone to think independently, but still work well with others. This is a chance to get in and make an immediate impact. It is an opportunity to work for a great company with smart people on a large and successful system that is used worldwide. With the considerable client uptake, the platform is already reaching its original design limits and migration to the Cloud, specifically AWS, to provide a high scalability solution is high on the agenda for this year. Experience in this area for all role types is highly desirable.
The Lead Software Engineer should have the ability to deliver high quality work on time in a high-energy environment while collaborating and brainstorming with other developers in a dynamic team environment. A combination of strong planning, organization, time management skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects are key. The Lead Software Engineer will also contribute to the maintenance and support of production systems as necessary.
This role is based in Toronto and reports into the Risk technology organization. The role will focus on creating a scalable and robust solution to help migrate key Risk products, like World-Check, to public cloud. The goal is to help develop a suite of self-service tools and infrastructure allowing development teams to develop, deploy and monitor HTML applications and web services. The solution must be a highly scalable platform capable of handling millions of requests and hundreds of applications and services.
- 5 years in technical leadership or similar capacity
- Developed and architected Full stack systems involving client side code, web services and database
- Previous experience in Web Services development and Cloud Infrastructure
- Architecting large scale distributed applications for performance and scalability
- Design and implementation of large software systems
- Deep understanding of system performance and DevOps process
- Automation, unit tests, integration tests, agile practices
- Ability to collaborate successfully across geography boundaries, time-zones, cultural differences
- Innovative and looking to industry standards and trends
- Ability to self-motivate and hold enthusiasm to see tasks through to completion
