Reuters is looking for an innovative and energetic graphics journalist to help transform our news file in Asia. The graphics journalist will create static and interactive graphics to accompany news stories across a spectrum of topics.
The graphics journalist will be expected to work swiftly and confidently to meet tight deadlines, producing graphics commissioned by the newsroom as well as generating original ideas for graphics and visual stories. Strong design skills also desirable and the ability to create technical or artistic illustrations is a plus.
In addition to technical know-how, candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills. The post requires the ability to collaborate with graphics colleagues in New York and London as well as photo, video, and text reporters around the world.
Essential day-to-day responsibilities:
The graphics journalist will create visual order from disparate concepts or amorphous data sets, applying logic and research to create information designs that add clarity, tell a story and emphasize key insights.
The successful candidate will work on a wide range of subjects including political and general news, financial news, companies, sports, climate and science.
This position reports to the Deputy Head of Graphics in Singapore.
- Strong design skills
- Knowledge of applications Excel, Adobe Creative suite
- Knowledge of mapping tools such as QGIS or similar
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Enthusiasm, curiosity and numeracy
- Illustration capabilities are a plus
