Role Summary:

Reuters is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Reporter to cover European oil and gas companies. The successful candidate will be expected to develop superb contacts at European energy companies ranging from Shell to Tullow and Premier Oil to break news, spot fresh trends in the industry and generate regular analysis along with ambitious, investigative stories.

Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to build sources among key industry decision-makers, including top executives at oil firms as well as buy-side-investors and hedge funds. In addition to covering oil companies, this reporter will also help cover European utilities and Europe's refined products and crude oil markets as part of the wider European energy team. S/he will also work with fellow correspondents in Asia and North America.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Strong news judgment and writing skills
  • Proven ability to build sources and break stories
  • Ability to read and analyse corporate P&L sheets
  • Ability to explain complex markets to a wide business audience
  • Experience using data and analytical tools to identify and highlight trends

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Deep knowledge of energy markets
  • Strong contacts with the buy-side
  • Ability to read and analyse corporate balance sheets
