There is an immediate vacancy for an

ECB Correspondent (f/m)

based in Frankfurt.

Reuters is seeking a highly motivated reporter to cover the European Central Bank out of Frankfurt, Germany.

The role is demanding and rewarding in equal measure and ideal for a reporter who works well under pressure, has a sharp eye for detail, can write fast, and is keen to learn the ins and outs of global monetary policy.

Considered the 'only game in town' during the crisis years, the ECB has held the euro zone together, putting it on course for its best economic run in a decade. Now it faces the precarious task of dismantling stimulus, the biggest challenge for the bloc and a top news story for years to come.

This is a great opportunity for a correspondent seeking exposure to the sharpest end of our news file and may be a great stepping stone for any future career with Reuters. This correspondent will help cover news on monetary policy and banking supervision, develop strong sources, and eventually write in-depth thought pieces connecting monetary policy with the real economy, the corporate sector, banking and households.

The ideal candidate will be a strong team player, joining a three-person reporting unit in Frankfurt and working in close cooperation with economics correspondents across the euro area to break news and write with authority on monetary policy and the ECB's role in the fledging Banking Union project.

He or she will be responsible for all aspects of news coverage from planning, to handling breaking news, to attending news events and taking part in the broader thought process in covering the world of central banking.

Essential skills and experience

  • Experience in business journalism or central bank communication
  • Strong written English, including the ability to write quick news alerts and stories.
  • Excellent spoken German
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and spot news quickly
  • Basic understanding of European monetary policy issues
  • A true team player able to work effectively with correspondents across the region
  • High degree of independence and creativity

Desired skills and experience

  • Experience in wire service and/or coverage of macroeconomics/markets/central banking
  • A track record of developing sources and breaking economic news
  • Knowledge and basic understanding of global banking supervision and economic issues
  • Command of other euro area languages an advantage
  • Solid handling of editorial technology and Reuters products

The position will be offered on local terms and conditions.
