Reuters is looking for a dynamic, scoop-driven mergers and acquisitions (M&A) reporter to break news on the biggest deals in corporate Canada.

From gold mining mergers to deal-making in the energy and cannabis sector, the M&A patch is a busy one domestically while, globally, Canadian pension funds and asset managers are major investors. Based in Toronto, the ideal candidate will be able to win exclusive stories on live and expected deals and follow them throughout their life cycle, working closely with the global M&A team and financial reporters. S/he will have strong source-building skills, tapping into Bay Street financiers, lawyers and regulators as well as the cloistered world of pension funds. The successful candidate will distinguish Reuters coverage with insightful behind-the-scenes details on deals, spotlight key dealmakers and be able to identify trends in M&A and capital market transactions


This position is a one-year maternity cover and does not come with any relocation benefits.


  • Proven ability to break news in a competitive environment
  • Prior M&A reporting experience and contacts preferable
  • Excellent news judgment and good organizational skills
  • A strong team ethic
  • Five to 10 years experience
