Role: Business Development Manager, Data Services (New Business Sales)

With the recent acquisition of Avox and Clarient, Thomson Reuters (TR) is expanding its Risk Managed Service (RMS) business to assist the global financial community and others in clearly identifying who its customers, counterparties, issuers, suppliers and others parties are. This is a requirement which fulfils data management and regulatory requirements designed to combat financial crime and improve operational and business efficiencies. The Business Development Manager, Data Services role is both challenging and rewarding, providing the successful candidate with the right mix of skills and knowledge the opportunity to make key contributions to the development of the commercial growth of RMS.

Key Points:

  • This is a newly acquired business within TR, and is therefore supported at board level
  • There is an existing product set that has existing clients, significant revenue and significant pipeline to close
  • This employee will be seen as a specialist in this market
  • This role relies both on managing your own pipeline but also closing qualified leads passed by others area of TR
  • This is a full-time salaried post with very significant commission-based earning potential

Role Purpose:

  • To build revenue and market share of RMS Data Services
  • To drive the expansion of RMS's client base through new client acquisition
  • To drive the expansion of RMS's client base through cross and up-selling at existing TR clients
  • To expand Thomson Reuters' market position as the premier provider of legal entity and KYC/AML services

Role outputs:

  • Develop and execute your own go to market strategy which includes collaboration with key internal stakeholders, including Thomson Reuters global account managers, the marketing teams and other sales teams in TR, to deliver annual revenue targets.
  • Manage a sales pipeline of opportunities, from deal origination and execution to deal closure.
  • Quickly establish creditability and trust with clients and internal stakeholders resulting in strong partnerships to promote RMS Data Services as the premier offering in the market.
  • Provide feedback to Management and Proposition (product management) on client and market requirements and competitive offerings.
  • As a strong team player, develop and share client presentations and other marketing collateral.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently through regular meeting notes, pipeline updates, client account plans and accurate deal forecasting.

Reporting and Relationships:

This role, Business Development Manager, Data Services:

  • Reports to the Head of Business Development, Data Services
  • Builds productive relationships with Global Business Directors, regional Account Managers and colleagues from Proposition, Marketing, Finance and others.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate evidence of the following:
  • Drive & ability to manage all aspects of the full sales cycle from origination to closing (contacting, engaging, selling, presenting, negotiating and closing) of data service and KYC/AML deals etc.
  • Deep knowledge and domain experience of financial markets and legal entity data requirements and use cases in the buy and sell side communities.
  • Closing Deals: significant, large and complex managed service / BPO or outsourcing deals in T1 Financial Institutions (applying commercial savvy)
  • Experience in developing relationships with prospects over a extended periods of time – multi level selling, stakeholder mapping and relationship development
  • Applying strategic thinking to complex issues and delivering fit for purpose solutions through developing relevant account plans.
  • Ability to deliver against targets
  • Proven communication, organization and interpersonal skills at strategic level, evidenced by influencing senior staff and directors in Financial Institutions
  • A strong desire to be an significant contributor to a fast growing and dynamic business

Desired Skills and Experience:

It is useful if candidates are able to demonstrate evidence of the following:

  • Proficiency in two or more languages (especially for French / German)
  • Experience in working in the international markets
  • Experience as a regional senior sales lead
