Blockchain Software Engineer

Blockchain Software Engineer

As the world's leading provider of intelligent information, we want your unique perspective to create the solutions that advance our business—and your career.

What makes you a dream candidate?

Are you fearless when it comes to new technology? Do you possess a strong sense of urgency and thrive in a fast-paced environment? Can you discuss technology in a way that establishes partnership, engages senior management, and ensures delivery? Do your colleagues clamor to use you as a sounding board and get you on their projects? Then come be a part of the team that "links to the genesis block" and creates the Tax & Accounting Blockchain platform. This platform will be used globally by the largest multi-national corporations and every sized professional accounting firm. Blockchain carries the expectation of disrupting numerous industries and we at Thomson Reuters are playing a leading role.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • As a developer, you will be part of an agile team ("consensus" required) and code from proof-of-concept through production
  • Develop, design and implement the core product: distributed applications within the Blockchain framework. Serve as a Blockchain expert.
  • Create the appropriate API's for interfacing with our back-end services
  • Use open source Blockchain platforms to customize the core components and smart contract logic
  • Use unit tests, benchmarking, and load-testing to validate our systems

Qualifications:

Yes, we know that Blockchain is so very new and we therefore recognize that the qualifications are somewhat squishy. We would love to find someone with Blockchain experience (on-the-job or self-taught). That could be someone with 10 years of programming experience who happens to have a small amount of Blockchain experience, or it could be someone with less overall programming experience, but who has more significant Blockchain experience. Other valuable qualifications are:

  • Experience in cryptography (bonus if you can explain a Merkel Tree)
  • Cloud-based computing and distributed systems experience. For example: JavaScript / Node.js web applications, REST web services, HTML/CSS, Java/J2EE.
  • Understanding of cloud development platforms (Bluemix, AWS, or Azure)
  • Linux/UNIX platforms and Bash scripting
  • Experience with TCP/IP, multicast, and other network-layer protocols
  • Awareness of serialization frameworks, including Big Data and NoSQL
  • Experience with large databases, coding, tuning and optimizing
  • MySQL/PostgreSQL
  • Coding experience in C , Java, Scala, Python, Go
  • Concurrent & Functional programming
  • Git Version Control using GitLab or GitHub (bonus for your GitHub profile)
  • Docker containers and containers orchestration
  • Love of Agile, DevOps, and TDD practices
