Senior Performance & Stability Engineer

The Washington Post is hiring a Senior Performance and Stability Engineer to work on our subscription platform across all Washington Post surfaces and respective engineering teams. Digital subscriptions is a fast paced, high growth environment that focuses on results. In this role, you have a direct impact on The Post's top line performance, ensure system stability during an election year and the opportunity to work with colleagues from all parts of the company from Marketing to the Newsroom.
Plan, implement, and perform load tests to validate system performance and stability
Analyze test results and work with developers and network engineers to identify and fix root cause issues
Provide analysis of performance testing results and provide insights into where optimization opportunities and application inefficiencies exist
Oversee system performance lifecycle and identify key metrics for performance improvements
Generate periodic performance reports for management and team review
Integrate performance testing into CICD pipelines
Train and mentor junior team members of the team
Bachelor's degree in computer science, equivalent field, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of current trends and best practices in front-end architecture, including performance optimization
5+ years of demonstrable performance engineering experience
Strong experience with JMeter, Micro Focus, Load Runner or other relevant load testing tools
Expertise in thread-dump and memory analysis
Strong and demonstrable experience creating and designing performance tests in a microservices architecture
Experience with code SonarQube or other code analysis tools
Strong experience working with GitHub and continuous integration tools (Jenkins or GitHub Actions)
Experience working with MongoDB and PostgreSQL databases
Practical experience working with data mining tools (Splunk experience preferred) and monitoring tools (DataDog preferred)
Experience working with AWS preferred
Deep understanding and experience with Agile SCRUM methodologies and operations
Exposure to working with onshore/nearshore team(s)
Experience building web applications on AWS.
Practical experience in client-side build/config management and testing tools like Webpack, Jasmine, Karma etc
Experience with end-to-end testing frameworks.
Working within cross-functional engineering teams as well as peer teams in building an integrated solution
Excellent communication, documentation and presentation skills for technical and business audiences
Experience analyzing application and cloud environment performance.
