About the Internship

Join the Port Authority's Office of Inspector General (OIG) as an intern with the Vendor Integrity team where your work will directly support efforts to safeguard one of the region's most vital agencies from fraud, waste, and abuse. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on investigative experience by conducting background checks and integrity screenings on companies seeking to work with the agency. Positioned within a highly specialized investigative team, you'll play a key role in supporting the OIG's mission to uphold transparency and accountability. Interns will develop valuable analytical, research, and reporting skills while exploring careers in criminal justice, public policy, and audit. This is an ideal role for students interested in making a real impact through public service and investigative work.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Investigative Manager, the selected candidate will conduct comprehensive vendor integrity checks on entities seeking to perform work on Port Authority projects.
  • Conduct database searches of companies and key individuals within those companies and report their findings in a defined reporting format.
  • Perform various tasks and assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment at a college/university through the duration of the internship
  • Major in Public Administration with an Inspector General related track

Desired Qualifications

  • Computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft applications consisting of Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
  • Analytical ability.
  • Interest in criminal justice policy, audit and/or investigations
  • Ability to: work independently and as part of a team; prioritize and triage their case work; and meet critical deadlines.

Internship Details:

  • This internship is expected to start in August 2025 with an end date that will be determined after the internship starts.
  • This internship will require a minimum of 29 hours per week.
  • Candidate must be available to work during core hours of 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
  • The format is expected to be mostly in-person with up to one day per week remote.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $27.89 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
