UX Team Lead: Chicago

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

The Team Lead is responsible for leading and supporting a team of highly-talented user experience designers across a variety of practice areas and project types. This support includes guiding the development of project approaches, ensuring high quality design work, helping designers get on projects that help them achieve their professional goals and supporting the sales team. We’re looking for a strong, strategic leader who is passionate about helping a team grow and succeed.


The Team Lead is an essential to our ability to provide our clients with the highest level of service. The Team Lead works to pro-actively mitigate project risks and manage team member workloads. They also works closely with UX leadership to identify opportunities for team growth and improve team processes.


RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • Guide the development of project approaches
  • Ensure each team member is delivering high quality design work
  • Provide team-focused leadership and guidance across all UX practice areas
  • Monitor the status of projects assigned to the team including budget awareness, timeline management, project set-up, scope alignment, balance of skills, client needs and team dynamics
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for project managers and sales regarding issues associated with active projects within the team, including project management support, client relationship and execution of UX related tasks
  • Identify opportunities to improve the user experience process and encourage a culture of continual exploration, experimentation, and collaboration
  • Collaborate with UX Managers to identify and resolve team member performance issues (project specific), provide opportunities for skill advancement, and assist with achievement of career goals
  • Set an example for the team in terms of professionalism, ethics, work habits, attitude, and teamwork
  • Serve as a unified voice and representative for their team
  • Foster team cohesion, culture, and identity
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date knowledge of individual team member workloads, overall team lead-time for taking on additional work, and identify opportunities to fill gaps in team member workload
  • Provide support to the sales team by estimating for prospective UX projects and participating in sales calls as needed
  • Assist with implementation and progress of internal initiatives
  • Assist with recruiting and hiring of new employees
  • The Team Lead may be expected to perform job-related duties and requirements not listed above

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a strong leader and a strategic thinker
  • 5+ years in the field of user experience design
  • Comprehensive understanding of UX processes and methodologies
  • Familiarity with project management practices
  • Familiarity with the software development process
  • Ability to effectively communicate issues and recommendations with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Ability to thoroughly understand the business issues surrounding UX execution on projects
  • Must be flexible and willing to work with others
