Solutions Architect: Kansas City


Job Purpose

As a member of The Nerdery’s Solutions Design team, you will work closely with Sales Directors, Account Executives, and Solutions Engineers (“Sales”) to win new strategic opportunities and help to convert Tier II and III Strategic Accounts to Tier I accounts. You will draw on contextual knowledge from experience with Sales Vertical industries in order to ideate, design, estimate, and propose solutions to new and existing strategic clients. Deep knowledge of the industries (e.g. market value, competitive landscape, regulations, and industry terminology) will empower you to be exceptionally empathetic and consultative to clients who fall within one, and to tailor custom solutions to them.

Solutions Architects are able to rapidly build domain knowledge, evaluate symptoms and root causes, facilitate discovery/definition workshops, and explain findings to clients with a breadth of technical and business awareness. Solutions Architects apply Design Thinking principles to identify and define business problems, correlate related constraints and requirements, and ideate and propose sound solutions to them. Solutions Architects drive toward The Nerdery’s sales goal by providing dedicated consultative, technical sales support to Sales team throughout the entire the sales lifecycle, with a focus on generating new business and helping to secure new accounts for The Nerdery.


  • Provide strategic support to the Sales Team during all aspects of the sales process, including but not limited to sales calls, sales meetings, partner briefings, estimate creation and delivery, and scope of work writing assistance
  • Responsible for the effectiveness of technical, engagement, and strategy decisions during the sales planning process with account executives, clients, and potential clients of The Nerdery, in alignment with a Branch/Sales Director and/or Sales Vertical
  • Responsible for effective delegation to and collaboration with subject matter expert resources during the sales process
  • Responsible for collaborating with Sales to identify accounts that can be targeted for consultative opportunity development
  • Conceptualize, propose, and conduct intensive Solutions Workshops with our clients in order to clearly define business problems and opportunities; to ideate, estimate, and propose solutions to them; and to secure new business as a result
  • Define solutions with full consideration of business requirements, user needs/expectations, and technology constraints
  • Deliver high quality estimates, proposals, and other collateral to clients
  • Provide content, requirements, vision, and architecture to Solutions Engineers for detailed estimate and proposal creation
  • Participate in negotiation of scope versus estimate, if there is a discrepancy and as needed
  • Assist with strategic and tactical initiatives for potential and existing Tier II and III strategic accounts and opportunities
  • Rapidly develop a contextual understanding of client domain,e.g. through business discovery, data intelligence, or observational research
  • Make sense of data through statistical analysis, mapping, and collaborative workshops, and synthesize your findings
  • Model, prototype, and evaluate desirable outcomes, and architect strategies to attain them, including development roadmaps, organization design, service blueprints, and experience frameworks
  • Protect The Nerdery and its clients by keeping information confidential

  • Experience and a driving passion to grow your domain knowledge within one or more of The Nerdery’s Sales Verticals and the industries they encompass (Healthcare, Retail, Industrial/Manufacturing, Media/Services)
  • Advanced understanding of Design Thinking process and principles, and a passion for problem solving
  • Advanced understanding of Sales department processes and resources
  • Understanding of The Nerdery’s service offerings
  • Advanced understanding of a variety of software development processes, design patterns, and methodologies
  • Demonstrates strong business acumen
  • Excellent written, verbal, visual, technical and nontechnical communication skills
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong analysts with the ability to distill root causes from symptoms, and root requirements for prescribed solutions
  • Holistic, long-term thinking
  • Experience working in multiple business domains
  • Strong business and technology architecture experience
  • Capable of understanding the impact of business requirements on the technologies being used to implement
  • Able to reconcile and articulate ideas for many audiences; strong technical communication skills



  • 4-year degree in a technical or writing intensive field such as computer science, computer engineering, visual or industrial design, technical communication, HCI, business management, economics, cultural anthropology, systems theory, game theory
  • 5+ years experience working directly with a variety of clients to:
    • Identify business problems
    • Define strategic technical solutions
    • Coordinate technical implementations
  • 3+ years experience in software engineering, User Experience / Visual Design, and/or Business Analysis in a production capacity
  • Bonus: Post-graduate degree
  • Bonus: Industry certifications (e.g. Certified Business Analyst, PMP, Six Sigma, HIPAA, etc.)
