Manager, DC School and Community Initiatives (DCSCI)

Develop, manage, and supervise DC Partnership Schools program. Contribute to overall School and Community Programs management and implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

60% Manager, DC School and Community Initiatives program. Includes working with schools on strategic planning and developing customized plans to meet each school's educational vision and goals. Includes processing payments

20% Coordinate technical and logistical requirements for program events (meetings, workshops, residencies); Supervise events as assigned by Director, DC School and Community Initiatives; Process payments of contracts and invoices, monitor program expenditures and assist with budget preparation; complete any reporting that is asked of by the Development department for funders. Serve as primary point of contact with teaching artists in regards to scheduling, contracts, payments, etc.

12% Recruit and supervise teaching artists to serve as Kennedy Center residency artists in DC Partnership Schools reflecting representative diversity of art forms (media arts, music, visual arts, theater, and dance) and artist perspectives (e.g., artists with disabilities, ethnic and racial diversity, sexual orientation, gender, etc.)

5% Provide feedback on updated workshop packets from teaching artists on the National Roster.

3% Recruit, interview, hire, support, and evaluate seasonal interns (fall, spring, summer) for the DC School and Community Initiatives program.

Education/Experience

  • Five years teaching experience with students and three years teaching experience with adults is preferred. Three years' experience in designing educational programs for teachers is preferred. A broad knowledge of the performing arts, education, and school districts is required.
  • A graduate degree in either the performing arts, arts education, education, or equivalent experience is necessary.
  • Three years' experience hiring, observing, providing feedback, and evaluating teaching artists is preferred.

Minimum Skills and/or Knowledge Required:

  • Strong interpersonal and managerial skills; must be a creative problem solver; be able to write clearly and conceptualize ideas, and have experience supervising employees. Must be able to organize and prioritize a large volume of work.
  • Ability to observe teaching and give constructive, respectful feedback to workshop leaders
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office
