The Position

Reporting to the Connect. Create. Discover. Assistant Program Leader, Headfirst Summer Camps  Connect. Create. Discover. (CCD) Counselors are responsible for bringing the Headfirst camp experience to life by tapping into the power of play to excite, entertain, and inspire. Our CCD Counselors lead their campers through camp days filled with expertly-designed experiential learning activities and projects. Counselors must possess the ability to communicate with a variety of age, interest, and skill levels, and must be able to approach each day and its unique challenges with enthusiasm, patience, and a sense of humor. Every detail of Headfirst programming is carefully crafted with meticulous attention to detail in order to give our CCD Counselors the freedom to focus on what’s most important: making memories, building bonds, and having the best day ever with their campers - every day.

The Work

Pre-Camp Season

  • Attend Counselor orientation and training days in late May and/or early June.
  • Participate in all required webinars and online trainings.
  • Master the Headfirst Summer Camps CCD curriculum and other materials provided prior to the start of camp.
  • Submit all required paperwork on time.

Camp Season

  • Execute the CCD curriculum with high energy, integrity, and passion.
  • Build strong connections with campers, taking personal responsibility for each camper's well-being, enjoyment, and development.
  • Serve as a role model for campers in demonstrating positive attitudes, respectful communication, appropriate attire and grooming, and a diligent work ethic.
  • Work as part of a team to foster a safe, fun, and supportive camp environment that is centered upon Headfirst Summer Camps’ mission and values.
  • Implement Headfirst Summer Camps’ traditions, games, policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain enthusiasm and focus throughout busy days during which you will supervise and participate with campers in every aspect of programming.
  • Assist Aquatics staff with swim instruction by getting in water to provide supervisory support and ease any camper fears.
  • Communicate respectfully, clearly, and kindly with all members of the Headfirst Summer Camps community, including HQ, camp leadership, fellow team members, campers, and campers' families.
  • Work in all weather conditions.
  • Execute AM/PM carpool assignments.
  • Participate in all required trainings, webinars, and team meetings.
  • Prepare, organize and set up/take down all programming areas, taking responsibility for campers’ belongings for safe keeping throughout the camp day.
  • Meet Headfirst Summer Camps dress code and appearance requirements.
  • Keep an inventory of supplies for the program and alert your Program Leader when items are needed.
  • Communicate professionally with parents as requested by leadership in order to provide customer connection and relay important information on camper experience.
  • Attend all special events as assigned, facilitating activities, interacting with families, and assisting with set up/clean up.
  • Report any issue, question, or concern regarding the campers promptly to the Program Leader; notify appropriate leadership immediately of any evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical conditions, individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances around campers, or any other potentially dangerous conditions or situation.
  • Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior in working with campers, campers’ families, fellow team members, leadership, and facility partners while upholding the Headfirst Summer Camps core values at all times.
  • Adhere to state law, Headfirst Summer Camps policies and procedures, and contractual obligations.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Headfirst Summer Camps leadership team and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

The Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High school graduate – or equivalent educational experience – and more than one full year out of high school in summer 2018 (if you will be less than one full year out of high school in summer 2018, please apply to our Connect. Create. Discover. Junior Counselor position).
  • Experience teaching or working with children.
  • Preferred: Completion or pursuit of a degree in an education-related field.
  • Preferred: CPR/First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification before May 31, 2018.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, at all times and in all situations.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of age, interest, skill, and developmental levels.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, follow instructions, and properly implement Headfirst processes and policies in order to ensure the safety and emotional well-being of campers and team members.
  • Ability to approach each day and its unique challenges with enthusiasm, patience, and a sense of humor.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check subject to applicable law.
