As a Senior Data Scientist, you will
- Support the delivery of a research agenda to growing The Hartford's book of insurance business
- Participate in the development and enhancement of our ULM models designed to support multiple use cases in pricing and operations.
- Explore new data sources and analytical techniques to ensure ongoing competitive advantage.
- Support research, predictive modeling and/or analytics projects leading to applied business results.
- Develop analytical deliverables, which will influence business processes, decisions and outcomes.
- Work with appropriate staff to productionalize data feeds if they are required on an ongoing basis and provide specifications and support for operationalization of Research products.
- Validate, manipulate and perform exploratory data

Your role in these projects will be of consultative nature collecting input from subject matter experts of the respective areas and deriving actionable insights. You will work with peers from diverse backgrounds and your manager to understand project scope, assist with research design especially with regards to availability of data design and build analytical files for research projects.
Key Skills
- Strong knowledge of processes and data
- Subject matter expertise in modeling data and analytical capabilities utilizing Python.
- Experience with big data technologies (i.e. Hadoop, Spark, Hive, etc.)
- Experience with database RDBMS technologies (i.e. Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata, etc.)
- Passion for learning new skills and the ability to adjust priorities on multiple projects based on changing demands/needs
- Verbal/written communication skills, with particular emphasis on communicating to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to translate complex technical topics into business solutions and recommended strategies.
Minimum Experience
- Bachelors, Master's or Ph.D. in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Quantitative Economics, Actuarial Science, or similar analytical field
- 5+ years of relevant experience in Research Function in Insurance or Financial Services or related field
- Experience in commercial markets insurance pricing (i.e. Workers Compensation, General Liability, Property, Auto, etc.) strongly preferred.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
