Director of Architecture

The Solution Architecture Director is a senior technology leadership position that requires a minimum of 10+ years' experience in IT, combined with demonstrated cloud architecture experience with implementing large enterprise technology platforms and capabilities. This role will interface with peers in the architecture leadership community and one or more segment CIO's to align business and IT strategies by contributing towards architectural roadmaps to transform current capabilities. The ideal candidate should have experience with architectures strategies, cloud-native architecture-patterns for large enterprise systems and would have a passion to own the future-state architecture definition for line of business capabilities. This position will be responsible for conceptualizing and designing innovative end-to-end solution architecture. The candidate must be able to bridge silos and communicate effectively at multiple levels of business and IT.



Solution Architecture Definition:

  • Work with the enterprise architect, segment CIO's, extended IT leaders, business, and IT support teams to develop and maintain technical strategies and roadmaps that are aligned with the segment's strategic direction to ensure that capabilities required by the business are enabled.
  • Accountable for defining solution architecture for enterprise applications within a line of business. Prepares and delivers comprehensive communications to convey solution architectures and how it enables business strategies.
  • Proficient at performing architecture trade-off analysis and making recommendation to segment CIOs, enterprise IT leaders and Business Leaders.
  • Closely work with cloud enablement team to migrate existing application to cloud-native platforms.
  • Experience in designing solution using cloud, hybrid cloud, and on-premise deployment models.
  • Work with extended architecture, business, and IT support teams to develop functional and technical blueprints (roadmaps) to deliver functional and automation change agenda aligned with strategic direction for one or more lines of business.

Architecture Community of Practice:

  • Research and present knowledge in emerging technologies. Bring thought leadership to application team and various practices across the organization.
  • Analyze emerging industry business and technology trends translating implications for new capabilities within functional and technology domains.
  • Advises on systems scalability and development opportunities that can be utilized or adapted to meet business area objectives.
  • Coach and mentor architecture resources
  • As a member of the broader architecture community, provide architectural leadership, guidance, and support at maturing architecture practices.
  • Develop and pilot architecture patters to support application requirements by leveraging reusable architecture components and by rolling out new patterns that aligns with enterprise architecture constructs.

Collaboration/communication:

  • Partner closely with business and IT stakeholders throughout the entire SDLC process in an Agile manner.
  • Lead technical discussions, work collaboratively with stakeholders, partners and team members
  • Work closely with the Chief Information Office, Enterprise Data Office, Enterprise Architecture, Line of Business Solution Architecture teams and Cloud enablement to design solutions that deliver business outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with excellent presentation skills to effectively communicate at multiple levels.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge and experience in solution architecture, integration and cloud architecture.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within an organization and influence leadership
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and translate requirements between business, project management and technical projects or programs
  • Leader and a team player with transformation mindset.
  • Ability to operate successfully in a lean, agile, and fast-paced organization and own and drive the solution architecture definition.
  • Experience in Property & Casualty or Life & Health insurance industry, preferably with implementation of core insurance solutions like Guidewire, DuckCreek , EIS, Fineos, Vitech, etc.
  • Experience with AWS security best practice and posture management - IAM, policies and maintain regulatory requirements with third-party tools.
  • 10+ years of experience in large-scale enterprise solution implementation and conversion/migration.
  • 8+ years of experience in large-scale enterprise application architecture - Java and/or .Net technology stack.
  • 4+ years of experience in designing and implementation of AWS cloud architecture.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$157,440 - $236,160
