Overview:

The Hartford's Data and Analytics community continues to grow, and we are seeking an energetic and passionate Data Transformation Lead to join our Enterprise Data Office in a key leadership position. The Data Transformation Lead will be responsible for managing a portfolio of data assets associated with a major line of business such as Personal Lines, Small Commercial, Middle Large Commercial, or other Shared Service within the Enterprise Data Office (EDO). The most prominent accountabilities include Data Ecosystem Product Ownership, Data Pipeline/Asset Execution, and Adoption.

The Data Transformation Lead plays a significant role building relationships with key stakeholders to develop evolution strategies, identify opportunities to intersect assets and capabilities with business impact, and manage regular demand and prioritization. Implementation and adoption of these assets are key success criteria for this role, which requires the development of marketing strategies and the on-going monitoring of the customer experience, adoption, and evolving business priorities. The Data Transformation Lead is a key partner to the VP, Head of Personal and Commercial Lines Data Office in building a comprehensive strategy to deliver scalable analytic solutions which meet the operational needs of the business while also advancing the state of data modernization at The Hartford.

The ideal candidate is a technically savvy senior leader who has proven experience executing data transformation programs. They are accountable for building the strategy and driving the execution of a new target-state cloud data ecosystem as well as evolving current-state on-premise assets. The Data Transformation Lead is also accountable for migrating self-service analytic consumers to the cloud (area-specific marts, innovation environments, dashboards, models, etc.) while delivering incremental value leveraging agile principles.

The Data Delivery Lead will be a trusted partner and advisor for the business leaders of the assigned business or shared area and will be accountable for managing their data assets as well as executing invest and maintenance initiatives. In addition, the leader will drive a strong data delivery lifecycle focus with continuous improvement and automation mindset.

The leader will manage a team of about 50 employees and 100 vendor resources organized into a set of Scrum and Kanban teams, delivering these data assets using agile practices. Experience with applying agile practices (including applying agile at scale) is important for the person in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Build, maintain, and evolve a high quality, scalable data ecosystem and analytical data assets for a line of business or shared area, in support of business strategies.
  • Build trusted partnerships with various stakeholders including vendor partners. Collaborate with Business and Analytics leaders as well as the CIO organization to develop a roadmap for evolving from the current-state data ecosystem to a target-state data ecosystem leveraging cloud-native technologies.
  • Build and execute agile plan to migrate analytic consumers to target state and sunset on-premise data flows
  • Ensure portfolio projects are successfully executed and delivered on time, on budget, and with high quality
  • Lead and manage up to 14 agile teams across multiple geographic locations
  • Create a high performing team that has a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and is focused on business impact
  • Thought leader and organizational change agent who can help foster a data-driven culture while simplifying the data ecosystem and improving the organizational speed-to-insight.
  • Create and publish standard artifacts and playbook for deployments, including the technology solution, reference materials, and the operational model for both engineers and analytic consumer community. Build customer artifacts to support adoption including documentation and insight briefs to highlight adoption and business value

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience managing data teams and deep expertise in data and analytics
  • In depth knowledge of data management strategies, practices, and principles
  • Proven ability to lead transformation initiatives, including transitioning to cloud and big data/open source technologies
  • Experience in managing large organizations and working within a complex Agile framework
  • Proven experience partnering with Analytics/Actuarial/Data Science business groups
  • Experience building data warehouses/lakes that are downstream from front-end applications such as Guidewire, Duck Creek, or XML-based applications is beneficial
  • Experience with cloud data pipelines concepts and current methods of scalable data provisioning for analytics use cases
  • Experience leading Agile teams; SAFe experience is a plus
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills at the senior management level with a demonstrated willingness to challenge the status quo and influence change
  • Ability to collaborate and partner with Business, Analytics, CIO and Infrastructure teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of the organizational
  • Strong conceptual, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree, specialized training, or equivalent work experience supporting analytical and/or technical projects
  • P&C Insurance experience a plus.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$160,720 - $241,080
