The Division of Occupational Licensure ("DOL") is responsible for oversight of 28 boards of registration, as well as the Office of Public Safety and Inspections and the Office of Private Occupational School Education. Collectively, DOL boards and offices license and regulate more than 580,000 individuals, businesses, and schools to engage in over 150 trades and professions in Massachusetts.

The mission of DOL is to protect the public health, safety and welfare by licensing qualified individuals and businesses to provide services to consumers. In addition, it is the duty of the DOL to ensure fair and consistent enforcement of the licensing laws and regulations. The Division of Occupational Licensure is seeking to hire a Salesforce Developer to join the Performance Management and Program Integrity Unit. The Salesforce Developer will be responsible for the end-to-end development and support of Salesforce applications and related data to support DOL's key business processes and applications. The incumbent will build solutions for business problems into the Salesforce Platform including functional requirements, needed workflows, accompanying data plans, and designing required architecture for DOL's Salesforce environments. The Salesforce Developer will also develop new functionalities and solutions for the transfer of data and applications from current access databases and applications to Salesforce.

The primary work location for this role will be at 1000 Washington Street, Boston, Massachusetts 02118. The work schedule for this position is Monday thru Friday, 8:45 AM - 5:00 PM.

This position would be expected to follow a hybrid model of reporting to work that combines in-office workdays and work-from-home days, based on operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support DOL's key business processes and applications through hands-on configuration and development, coordination of new development requests, and management of application integration to Salesforce
  • Provide and design solutions and required architecture to business requests for DOL's Salesforce environments
  • Develop and review specifications for enhancements to DOL's Enterprise Applications and associated database environments
  • Design and build high-performance, reusable, and reliable Apex code with best practices
  • Translate requirements defined in business, functional, and use case documents or operational artifacts into solutions in the Salesforce Platform
  • Develop and execute comprehensive system test plans, conditions, test scripts, and test cases
  • Recommend and facilitate best fit solutions through accurate assessment of workflow, data, and other process related problems
  • Test bug fixes to ensure performance success as per requirements and deploy them to production
  • Complete regular internal system audits and prepare for upgrades
  • Provide direct support to both technical and non-technical users including but not limited to end user issues, enhancement requests, troubleshooting various system problems, and other administrative needs within the Salesforce Platform
  • Liaise between the Agency Performance, Program Integrity, and Innovation Department and other DOL Business Units
  • Collaborate with business partners to establish suitable processes to support development and change management activities
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of related user documentation and end-user training to grow the Salesforce skillset and adoption across the organization
  • Support DOL's Mission, Ethics, and Values in keeping with the general operational standards of the department

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Seven (7) + years of experience in a large enterprise setting building on the Salesforce platform, with experience in a government or state agency a plus
  • Proven track record achieving desired business outcomes through defining system architecture, identifying gaps between current and desired end-states, and delivering comprehensive solutions
  • Extensive experience developing advanced Apex, Lightning Web Components, advanced complex triggers, Visualforce pages, SOQL, scheduled batch jobs, and SOAP/REST Integrations
  • Professional experience authoring requirements, definition, design, and other related project and system documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively identify and translate user requirements in business, functional, and test scenarios for project of various sizes and complexity
  • Ability to leverage customization of Salesforce objects, Salesforce workflows, and Process Builder to automate processes and improve Service productivity/adoption
  • Hands-on experience in data management including uploading/cleaning-up data using data loader, creating validation rules, pick list values, and lookup filters to ensure data quality
  • Demonstrated experience designing custom objects, custom fields, picklists, page layouts, workflow, approval processes, validation rules, custom tabs, Visualforce pages, and email generation according to application requirements
  • Strong knowledge of Salesforce configuration capabilities and be able to recommend best practices and identify areas where custom development is required
  • Proven experience and knowledge of Agile methodologies and running projects on Agile
  • Strong understanding of environment management, release management, code versioning best practices, and deployment methodologies
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to independently analyze complex problems and recommend solutions
  • Highly organized and able to maintain detailed documentation on processes, standards, and projects
  • Exceptional time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to effectively delegate and multi-task
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with technical and non-technical staff, as well as upper management and across organizations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate and provide technical support to both technical and non-technical audiences

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or other related field, or equivalent work experience
  • One (1) active Salesforce certification required

SALARY PLACEMENT IS DETERMINED BY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE POSITION AND THE HUMAN RESOURCES DIVISION'S RECRUITING GUIDELINES. IN THE CASE OF A PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY, THE SALARY PROVISIONS OF THE APPLICABLE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT WILL APPLY TO (OR WILL BE UTILIZED FOR) PLACEMENT WITHIN THE SALARY RANGE.
