Electrician II

Job Description

The Electrician II will test, repair, install and/or maintain various types of electrical systems and equipment; troubleshoot electrical and related equipment; maintain adequate inventory equipment and materials; supervises and inspects the work of electricians of lower grades and/or outside contractors; and determines materials and or equipment necessary for a job and on-the-job procedure changes. Performs other job-related- duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Schedule: This is a full time role, Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general Summary and not all inclusive):

  • Develops and implements preventative maintenance plans for all electrical system, equipment, and devices.
  • Planning layout and installing and maintaining electrical wiring, fixtures, apparatus, and master control, monitor and interfaces with contract.
  • Repairing electrical equipment and apparatus such as motors, generators, regulators, and alarm systems.
  • Testing and charging storage batteries and repairing and replacing electrical parts.
  • Operating and maintaining testing switchboards and power panel. Visual inspection of Sub Station-One and Sub Station Two. Ensure Security, Fire Safety, and Safety and Integrity of the area. Feedback to Director of Facilities & Maintenance and Mechanical Engineer of findings.
  • Reading electrical meters and recording meter readings.
  • Cleaning and lubrication of electrical machinery and equipment and maintaining an inventory of parts and equipment.
  • Supervising of trade workers or electricians under Director of Facilities & Maintenance and Mechanical Engineer in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring systems and equipment when necessary.
  • Operating and maintaining motors, generators, switchboards and similar electrical devices and equipment.
  • Oversee annual electrical apparatus inspection and annual tagging for inspection per JCAHO standards.
  • Inspect and approve new purchase and or refurbished electrical equipment prior to use by client and caregivers.
  • Tag out and tag in all apparatus and equipment that are deemed unsafe.
  • Interface with contracts under the Director of Facilities & Maintenance and Mechanical Engineer in resolving testing and maintaining utility systems.
  • Responsible for facility life safety equipment and apparatus operation per NFPA and JCAHO standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Considerable knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of the electrical trade.
  • Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions peculiar to the electrical trade.
  • Considerable knowledge of the state electrical codes.
  • Skill in working with the tools and equipment of the electrical trade.
  • Ability to detect and locate causes of electrical failure or breakdown of equipment
  • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency

Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children (PRHC) located in Canton, MA is a Joint Commission Accredited, 90+ bed pediatric hospital predominately serving children and young adults (ages 8-22) operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The mission of PRHC is to provide medical, rehabilitative, educational, recreational, habilitative, transitional, and complementary alternative medical services to children and young adults with multiple disabilities, assisting them to achieve their optimal level of independence in all aspects of life. PRHC offers coordinated medical care and therapies in a hospital-based environment, as well as, K-12 schooling, located on the grounds. Educational Services are provided by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. In addition, PRHC offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities such as swimming, horseback riding, adaptive sports, and many opportunities for socialization for disabled children and young adults.

Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicant must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a licensed journeyman or master electrician.

Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician's License issued by the State Examiners of Electricians.

NOTE: License requirement regarding the Department of Public Works: Neither general street lighting nor traffic light work performed by the Department of Public Works or its agents or employees on public ways is subject to the licensing requirements of M.G.L. Chap. 141. 1976 - 1977 Op AG, No. 26. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
