Job Description

The Board of Registration in Pharmacy (BORP) under the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking an experienced applicant interested in working with a team of pharmacists from the BORP whose mission is patient safety. This position includes daily interaction with Board staff, Director of Pharmacy Investigations, and a team of Pharmacy Investigators to coordinate the intake of complaints, inquiries, and inspectional deficiencies to be investigated and brought before the Board.

Interaction with complainants is also a key component of the Compliance Officer. In doing so the selected candidate obtains evidence and establishes facts concerning complaints and cases of alleged noncompliance with laws, rules, and regulations of the BORP.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Responds to inquiries to provide information concerning agency policies and procedures and laws, rules and regulations governing agency activities.
  • Obtains evidence and establishes facts concerning alleged non-compliance with laws, rules and regulations by interviewing individuals in order to determine extent of non-compliance, validity of complaints and to prepare evidence or information for appropriate action at regularly scheduled triage meetings.
  • Verifies information obtained to establish accuracy and authenticity of facts.
  • Confers with parties to complaints to resolve issues, make appropriate settlements and to encourage compliance with established laws, rules and regulation.
  • Organizes incoming complaints and inquiries into a database and prepares to present at regularly scheduled triage meetings.
  • Tracks inquiries and issues, performs regulatory research and analysis, and responds to customer inquiries.
  • Provides support for monthly and as needed meetings of the Board of Pharmacy.
  • Recommends changes regarding policies and procedures governing assigned unit activities and confers with management staff and other agency personnel to provide information, resolve problems and/or recommend changes in policies and procedures.
  • Performs related duties such as maintaining records, attending meetings, and preparing correspondence.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop and produce presentations.
  • Capacity to assemble items of information in accordance with established procedures.
  • Talent for maintaining organization and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively with diverse groups of people and cross-functional project teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in regulatory compliance.
  • Familiarity with administrative law or procedure.
  • Skilled in providing administrative support.
  • Ability to create positive and inclusive environment for people from different backgrounds with a focus on accessibility, equity, and diversity.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving with the ability to managing relationships both internally and externally.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook.

Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in investigatory, law enforcement or regulatory administration work, or (B) and equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

A Bachelor's or higher degree may be substituted for a maximum of the two years of the required experience.

Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
