Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Incumbents of positions in this series• keep armories in clean and orderly condition; maintain the appearance and cleanliness of floors; wash interior surfaces of armories such as walls, ceilings, windows, etc.; perform related• maintenance work and emergency repairs on heating systems,• electrical systems, plumbing, etc.; maintain grounds around buildings; empty waste receptacles; move furniture; and perform related work .as required.

The basic purpose of this work is to provide building maintenance and cleaning services to assure armories are properly' maintained and cleaned.

  1. DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


1. Maintains the interior of buildings by performing such activities as cleaning, mopping, polishing, buffing and vacuuming floors and rugs; washes walls, ceilings and windows using appropriate equipment and • supplies; and makes .Minor repairs using hand tools and other equipment.

2. Maintains lighting' and electrical systems by performing• such activities as replacing fluorescent tubes; monitors emergency lighting systems and checks and charges batteries.

3. Maintains plumbing systems by performing such activities as fixing faucet- leaks, Repairing showers and performing other minor building repairs.

4.Maintains exterior of building by performing such activities as cleaning gutters and down spouts and painting exterior surfaces; repairing and replacing windows; coordinates waste and trash removal; and grounds keeping activities• , including cutting grass, raking leaves, lar1dscaping, gardening, etc.

5. Assembles and moves furniture for meetings and special functions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Armorers walk and stand for prolonged periods of time; lift and carry heavy objects; work indoors and outdoors; maybe exposed to the harmful effects of chemicals; noxious fumes, excessive noise, heat, dust, etc.; may work varied shifts, weekends, _holidays or nights; and may travel for job related purposes.

1. Ability to follow oral and written Instructions.

2. Ability to understand and apply the policies, procedures, rules,• regulations,.etc. governing assigned unit activities.

3. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.

4. Ability to deal tactfully with others.

5. Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time.

6. Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.

7. Physical stamina and endurance.

8. Manual dexterity.

9. Mechanical aptitude.

10. Ability to read the English language.

11. Ability to maintain. Accurate records.

12 Knowledge of the methods followed In building maintenance and custodial work.•

13 Knowledge of the types and uses of materials, tools and equipment used In building maintenance and custodial work.

14. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures followed In. building custodial work.

15. Knowledge of the types and uses of small hand tools used In building maintenance such as pliers, hammers, wrenches, etc.

16. Knowledge of the standard procedures followed in the storage of building custodial and cleaning materials.

17. Knowledge of the methods and techniques used for the security of buildings and property.

QUALIFICATIONS ACQUIRED ON JOB

1. Knowledge of the policies, procedures, rules, regulations. etc. governing assigned unit activities.

2. Knowledge of the methods followed in building maintenance and custodial work.

3. Knowledge of the types and uses of materials tools and equipment used in building custodial work.

4. Knowledge. Of safety practices and procedures followed In building custodial work.

5. Knowledge of the types and uses of small hand tools used in building maintenance such as pliers, . Hammers, Wrenches, etc.

6. Knowledge of the standard procedures followed in the storage of building custodial and cleaning materials.

7. Knowledge of the methods and techniques used for the security of buildings and property.

8. Skill in the use of small hand tools used in building maintenance such as pliers, hammers, wrenches. etc.

9. Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of supervision.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIRMENTS

Applicants must have at least one year of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in building custodial or Institution housekeeping work or building maintenance.

LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRMENTS
  1. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License.


Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in building custodial or institution housekeeping work.

Special Requirements:

Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
