BR&T is seeking a Senior Chemical Engineer (Level 4) to join our team in Algona, Washington.

This position is on the Boeing Research and Technology Manufacturing Integration â€" Commercial Team and will be primarily supporting the Tube, Duct, & Reservoir Center (TDRC) at the Auburn Washington Boeing metals manufacturing site. Â

The applicant will work with manufacturing and engineering teams as the chemical process focal for TDRC. The applicant will have or develop a detailed understanding of chemical tank line processing, paint and sealant application, and the engineering requirements associated with metal finishing. ÂThis position involves problem solving using analytical chemistry testing methods, and data to aid in quality failure investigations and decisions regarding product integrity. ÂFinally, the applicant will assist in reviewing new incoming part plans for reproducibility.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Helps to identify and complete projects which will improve product quality, improve process safety, and reduce manufacturing costs as well as manufacturing process specification reviews and approvals
  • Project work will require computer based planning, leading others, and interactive factory effort
  • Defines requirements and approves tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products
  • Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
  • Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
  • Promotes standardization across business activities
  • Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
  • Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements. Integrates new technologies as appropriate
  • Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
  • Conducts analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts or processes. Implements corrective and preventive actions
  • Designs, develops and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements
  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.ÂÂ

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 3+ years chemical engineering experience
  • 3+ years manufacturing experience

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience with spray applied paint
  • Experience with aqueous emulsion and/or alkaline cleaning
  • Experience with metal forming lubricants
  • Experience with metal chemical etching
  • Experience with metal conversion coating
  • Experience with metal deoxidizing
  • Experience with molten salt bath brazing
  • Experience with chemical process safety management
  • 2+ years of chemical tankline experience
  • 2+ years of chemical lab experience
  • 2+ years of quality control related experience

Typical Education/Experience:Â

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
