Position Responsibilities:
  • Leads or supports activities to develop, document and maintain complex architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems
  • Leads or supports development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system
  • Develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met
  • Provides technical leadership for software projects and leads software supplier management activities
  • Leads development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools and metrics. Leads software research and development projects
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations
  • Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards
  • Trains and mentors others
  • Works under consultative direction.

  • Basic Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, or computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
    • Experience in new technology or product/capability development.
    • experience in system design, functional decomposition, requirements development analysis, verification and validation
    • Must be able to work alongside Systems Engineers to specify Systems and Software requirements, and at times, develop software without formal requirement specifications. For example, the Software Engineer must be able to develop software from a proof of concept operations, as well as production software where the requirements need to be developed from scratch.
    • Must be able to produce working prototypes and initial production versions in a very dynamic environment, and to move the software into full production readiness. For example, Systems and Software requirements may change on a daily or weekly basis based airline operational use; the Software Engineer must be agile to this changing environment during prototype and production development.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Strongly desired experience architecting, designing, developing, and delivering web/application services and mobile applications. The systems and software deliverables will reflect this level of expertise.
    • Background in web development and deployment and web server configuration and maintenance is highly desired.
    • Ability to work with and manage local and virtual teams is highly desired as well.
    • Strong knowledge and experience with a broad range of information and communications technologies and systems, including:
    • Working experience with ACARS communication protocols.
    • Experience working with flight plans and airline flight plan systems
    • Advanced Message Queuing Protocols (IBM MQ and RabbitMQ)
    • Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
    • Experience with Java, Web Services (SOAP/REST), and developing iOS applications using Cordova, Xcode, and Cocoa/Objective-C is desired.
    • Working experience with Grails and Groovy.
    • Active experience with Javascript, Spring, Clojure, HTML5, Postgres, Tomcat, Git, and Jenkins.
    • Active experience with Microsoft Cloud Services, specifically kubernetes.
