The Boeing Metals Center of Excellence team has openings to support fabrication of the P-8 Tail-Cones, F-18 Pylons & F-15 Launchers. The openings are for Structural Assembly Technicians in Mesa, AZ. The selected candidates will assemble, modify and install aircraft structural assemblies, subassemblies, and structures on aircraft systems. Identify nonconforming parts, conditions and manufacturing processes.

Job Description
  • Lays out, fabricates assembles, mates, installs and functionally tests, checks or troubleshoots, and repairs production and prototype aircraft structures, parts and assemblies, mechanical and pneumatic.
  • The position requires the successful completion of the Sheet Metal Airframe Repairer (SMAR) assessment after start
  • Assemble aircraft structures or aircraft support equipment with or without the aid of jigs and fixtures by drilling, filing, filling, reaming, countersinking, burring and fastening using various hand tools as well as electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Work with engineering to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Shim, fit, trim and align structural assemblies and subassemblies that vary considerably from one assembly to another as with fairings and the mating of major assemblies; realign or replace ribs, bulkheads or stringers in skinned assemblies; establish from blue-prints with or without firm callouts, butt, station and water lines; blind pick up of hole locations for blank parts from existing structure; correcting skin canning conditions, buckles, wrinkles in outer skins and remove surface defects as assigned.
  • Assemble, install, rework, repair and modify aircraft structural, mechanical or electrical assemblies, subassemblies, components, systems, and airframe structures on aircraft systems following manufacturing planning, blueprints, schematics, process specifications, repair and rework sketches, written and oral instructions.
  • Ensure all assemblies and detail parts are free of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and nonconformance issues. Check units for compliance using hand held precision measuring equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, height gages and scales.
  • Report all non-conformances to manufacturing supervision or corrective action representative. Prepare rejection tags noting deviations from specifications on dimensions, finishes, material, processes, or quality when required.
  • Follow all safety procedures and reports unsafe conditions to safety officials or manufacturing supervision.
  • Report on job status and restraints to coworkers and supervision
  • Identify production inefficiencies and suggests potential improvements to product or process.

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

These positions must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Basic Qualifications (Required)

  • At least 3 yrs. experience with basic sheet metal, riveting, assembly methods and common shop practices.
  • At least 3 yrs. experience interpreting and working from blueprints, sketches and written and verbal instructions, in English.
  • Do you have experience applying shop math.
  • Minimum 1 yr. experience using computer systems for shop applications. - specific training will be provided
  • Must have a High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
  • Must be able to work first or second shift.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Able to work in confined spaces requiring kneeling, crawling, climbing, and bending.
  • Skilled in listening and interpersonal participation, and able to work with others as part of a team which includes giving and receiving feedback, and assisting others in completion of tasks.
  • Experience with aviation or military products and processes are a plus.
  • Experience with rigging and installation of operating mechanisms structures, or assemblies and parts, or related systems and equipment is preferred
  • Capable of working any shift preferred
  • Ability to work extended hours, overtime and weekends when necessary to support factory and operations activities.

Work schedule: Full time - 4/10's with Friday off
Start time: 5AM
End time: 3:30PM
OT/DOT expected?: Yes, OT as needed to support the shop

Shift expectations: Second
Work schedule: Full time - 4/10's with Friday off
Start time: 3PM
End time: 1:30AM
OT/DOT expected?: Yes, OT as needed to support the shop

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

There is no relocation available with this position. You must live in the geographical area or relocate yourself.

Summary pay range: $52,000 - $66,560
