Boeing Commercial Airplanes has an exciting opportunity for a Milled Spar Sand Machine Operator to join our team in Auburn, WA!

Workers in this position set up, operate and adjust milled spar sanding machines to sand parts, to remove sharp edges, and to accomplish surface finish to quality requirements. Employment in this position also requires lifting and carrying 10-35 pounds, pushing/pulling more than 35 pounds, standing, use of low impact vibratory tools, walking, bending and twisting at the waist, reaching, rotation of head/neck, finger manipulation, contact with metals, exposure to noise, vibration, energized sources and atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face/eye, hand/arm, ears and feet.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Prioritize task based upon tie-ins, management instructions, shop requirements, and schedule constraints.
  • Obtain and read manufacturing plans and engineering drawings to determine requirements of work to be performed.
  • Verify that work order matches the part number and that prior operations have been bought off and dated properly.
  • Troubleshoot problems and develop plans to resolve work issues such as finish irregularities or damage and notify appropriate personnel, as required.
  • Check water level on the dust collector and adjust level, as required. Load channel vent on conveyor using pendant crane and over head crane.
  • Position channel vent on south roller tables with inboard end of the channel vent closest to the burr machine.
  • Load shop aids into ends of channel vent, as required.
  • Check machine for pinch roller diameter, heads, air pressure, pinch roller height and safe operation of machine.
  • Start pinch roller and insert part into machine inboard end first.
  • Run part far enough into machine to adjust each head for optimum brush performance.
  • Back part out of machine (use caution for shop traffic though aisle way of conveyor and for part clearances on rollers).
  • Input lift and others settings on the computer per pinch roller size part number and part position.
  • Save head slide position and transfer to memory, and check machine for movement. Select head and check for roller speed.
  • Start brushes and pinch rollers and feed part inboard end first, monitor load screens for part progress and adjust head amperage as necessary to achieve proper radius on all edges, as required.
  • Remove shop aids as part exits machine and verify all surfaces have been blended per drawing and BAC 5748.
  • Unload channel vent and buy off operation on tracer plan. Remove burrs and break sharp edges using routers, scrapers, and sanders.
  • Clean surfaces using solvents and/or water, as required. Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in approved manner.
  • Contact supervisor when assistance is needed or when any problem arises.
  • Maintain personal and tool certification, as required.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 1+ years of experience reading engineering blueprints/drawings
  • 3+ years of experience using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools
  • 1+ years of experience using basic math (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
  • 1+ years of experience do you have working with precision measuring tools
  • Basic Computer experience
  • Fluent in both verbal and written English

Typical Education:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This position is for 2nd shift.

Summary pay range: $20 - $42.80 an hour.
