Compliance Examiner

The Auto Club Group (ACG) provides membership, travel, insurance and financial services offerings to approximately 9 million members and customers across 11 states and 2 U.S. territories through the AAA, Meemic and Fremont brands. Primary Duties and Responsibilities (details of the basic job functions):

Serve as a business function and control evaluation expert for assigned business lines. Review business activities and transactions for lines of business to ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory and/or banking/financial service requirements and jurisdictions. Assess regulatory risk and assist management in the development and timely completion of compliance examination programs which are responsive to legal and regulatory requirements. Document findings, analyze overall adequacy of results and propose recommendations to management for improvement. Prepare written reports and discuss examination results with management. Monitor and update policies and procedures and oversee corrective actions of various business units to ensure compliance.

Work closely with the compliance and ethics staff on control issues and provide assistance to outside regulatory examiners in the review of company operations as required. Contribute to the development of compliance training materials and communications and recommend enhancements to current compliance processes and procedures. Represent the Compliance & Ethics Department on corporate projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education (include minimum education and any licensing/certifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Completion of CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), CRCM (Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager, CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) or related designations

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of:

  • Auto Club Group (ACG) product and services

Work Environment:

Works in a temperature-controlled office environment. Occasional travel (up to 10% of work time) with possible exposure to road hazards and temperature extremes.

Required Qualifications (these are the minimum requirements to qualify):

Education (include minimum education and any licensing/certifications):

  • College coursework in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Internal Auditing or a related field


  • Reviewing and analyzing banking related statutes, bulletins, legal articles, industry publications, pending legislation and regulations to determine impact on company products and services
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of policies/procedures
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating internal controls
  • Completing written reports, risk assessments and audits within prescribed timeframes
  • Successfully managing multiple competing priorities/projects
  • Researching, identifying and resolving business problems
  • Researching, compiling, analyzing and interpretating data
  • PC software applications (e.g., Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, VISIO)
  • Working in a bank compliance and/or audit environment

Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of:

  • Bank regulatory requirements governing banking practices
  • Audit/examination practices related to market conduct and compliance
  • Regulatory requirements governing, the banking industry
  • Regulatory requirements governing banking/lending/trust practices
  • Audit/examination practices related to the financial service industry and consumer protection compliance
  • Regulatory requirements governing mortgage/consumer/banking industries
  • Internal control models (3 lines of defense, COBIT, etc.)

Ability to:

  • Monitor, analyze and evaluate business operations and employee work products to for corporate and regulatory compliance purposes
  • Analyze and summarize regulatory and statutory information for management
  • Research and identify relevant industry benchmarks and make appropriate recommendations
  • Explore alternative approaches to existing process and project/operational objectives
  • Prepare and conduct presentations to all levels of management and external groups (e.g., government and industry officials)
  • Liaison between field locations, corporate departments and external contacts
  • Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills (A writing sample may be required at time of interview)
