Packaging Machine Operator II - Full Time

Job Summary : The Machine Operator II is an advanced-level, full-time, hourly position within the Terrapin Beer Company Packaging department where advancement in operations is expected. Under the direction of Packaging Department management team, this position is responsible for operating all production machinery within the Packaging department and assisting with the daily packaging operations as detailed below. The incumbent will report directly to the Packaging Shift Supervisor.

As a condition of employment, this position is required to work a rotational swing shift that includes nights and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Follow all safety procedures and adhere to all company policies and procedures, including the safe operation of equipment and help to maintain a safe, clean work environment that includes general housekeeping warehouse duties.
  • As directed, move finished products and materials throughout the facility utilizing powered industrial trucks
  • Safely operate all departmental equipment which includes Filler, Keg Line, Switchback 150 & 500, Vacum Lifter, Date Coder, Heuft and bottling line.
  • Demonstrate cognition, and application, of advanced knowledge of standard operating procedures for each piece of machinery in department.
  • Perform detailed quality checks on finished goods as they move through the packaging process.
  • Provide Shift Supervisors with communication on impending material shortages.
  • Perform select administrative tasks including, but not limited to, quality checks on finished goods and accurately maintaining required paperwork.
  • Perform intermediate maintenance functions on equipment including using multi-meters to diagnose problems, raising/lowering heights and changing out pump seals.
  • Identify all lock-out tag-out points and Emergency Stops on all equipment.
  • As directed, operate internal equipment including Depalletezier and Switchback 150.
  • Demonstrate cognition, and application, of all departmental standard operating procedures and internal processes.
  • As directed, perform cleaning-in-processes (CIPs) for select departmental equipment.
  • Pursuant to Company Safety policies, fix any jams on equipment and immediately notify management of issues with machine performance.
  • Assist Packaging Instrumentation & Controls Technicians in performing select maintenance on departmental machinery.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills Requirements :

Minimum of 6 months experience operating similar, or comparable, machinery in a fast-paced manufacturing or distribution setting. ( Or ) prior work experience in a comparable fast-paced, process-oriented work setting. Completion of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.

Machine Operator IIs must either have HACCP certification or, as a condition of employment, complete internal HACCP training within the first 90 days of employment.

Applicants, without an accommodation, must have the ability to frequently reach, twist, stoop, bend, crouch, stand and walk for 8-12 hour shifts. Must be able to lift 30 lbs. repeatedly and maneuver up to 180lb kegs.

Qualifications

Knowledge & Skills Requirements :

Minimum of 6 months experience at a similar sized or larger craft brewery or beverage manufacturer. (Or) similar work experience in a manufacturing or mechanical based job role. (Or) thorough knowledge of equipment, safety procedures and operational policies/procedures within the Terrapin Beer Company Packaging Department. Completion of a High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Secondary education via a Technical College in the fields of Industrial Systems, Manufacturing Operations Technology, Engineering Technology, Electrical Systems Technology, Small Engine Repair or similar degree programs is preferred.

Additional preferred qualifications would entail previous work experience with filters, labelers, packers, sealers, experience in operating a forklift, CIP experience, good mechanical skills and understanding of machinery and a willingness to work on the packaging lines as a part of the packaging team. A passion for, and working knowledge of, the brewing process is preferred.
